On the morning of September 5, at the Hy Vong School dormitory in Da Nang city, Vo Cung Hieu Nghia (grade 11) quietly woke up, folded his clothes to prepare for his younger brother Vo Cung Minh Tri (grade 3) to go to the opening ceremony. Orphaned by the Covid-19 pandemic, the two brothers left Ho Chi Minh City to study in Da Nang, relying on each other at this special school.

Having gotten used to living away from home for the past three years, Nghia has become a strong support for his younger brother. For Tri, the first year of school without his mother taking him to school made him cry many times because of sadness, but thanks to his brother's love, and the sharing of his friends and teachers, he has gradually adapted.

Also from Ho Chi Minh City, two brothers Nguyen Xuan Phuc (grade 11) and Nguyen Xuan Nghi (grade 3) share the pain of losing their mother in the Covid-19 pandemic.

A new school year away from home with many surprises, without her father by her side, Xuan Nghi was shy and unfamiliar, but the care of her sisters in the platoon helped her become more steadfast, knowing how to turn pain into strength to grow up.

For Ngoc Diep (11 years old), who has been at Hy Vong School for 5 years, the opening day becomes a special occasion for her to set new goals.

On a small piece of paper stuck in the corner of the cupboard, Diep wrote: “This year I want to be a good student, or an excellent good student. I also hope to make many new friends.”

Diep said that when she gets home, she plans to tell her mother about her 5th opening day at Hy Vong School, where she has new friends, new experiences and her favorite subject.

Mr. Hoang Quoc Quyen, Principal of Hy Vong School, said that in the new school year, the school has received 40 students orphaned by Covid-19 from many southern localities, many of whom have older siblings studying at the school. Up to now, the school has 300 students from 29 provinces and cities and 13 ethnic groups across the country.

Hope School was established in 2021 to share love, nurture, and train students who were unfortunately orphaned by the Covid-19 pandemic nationwide.

Right from the 2022-2023 school year, the first school year, the school welcomed more than 200 students from all over the country to enroll.
