Apple has just announced the launch of its online store in Vietnam from May 18, providing Apple product lines and direct Vietnamese support to customers nationwide. According to Apple, the online store provides the same customer service and personalization as the physical store. In addition, there is a team of experts to support in Vietnamese.
Mr. Deirdre O'Brien, Apple's Senior Vice President of Retail, expressed "honor to have the opportunity to expand in Vietnam".
Apple’s new move could very well be a stepping stone to a physical Apple Store in the future. India can be seen as a prime example. In the South Asian country, the iPhone maker opened an online Apple Store on September 23, 2020, offering direct customer support for the first time. India is Apple’s 38th market to have an online store. After nearly three years, on April 18 and April 20, the “bitten apple” consecutively opened the first two Apple Stores here, emphasizing the importance of the market to the company.
The Apple BKC store is located in Mumbai, while the other is in Delhi. Apple has been operating in India for 25 years. CEO Tim Cook himself was present at the opening event and opened the doors to welcome customers.
Apple is looking to boost iPhone sales and production outside of China. Along with India, Vietnam is an increasingly important link in both Apple’s supply chain and its sales. The company already makes iPads, Apple Watches, and AirPods in Vietnam. In December 2020, Nikkei reported that Apple had asked Foxconn to produce some MacBooks domestically from May 2023. Last month, Quanta Computer, a MacBook assembly partner, said it would build a $120 million factory in Nam Dinh , fueling speculation that “made in Vietnam” MacBooks were coming.
Not only that, in the Q2/2022 business results report meeting, Mr. Cook highly appreciated the Vietnamese market. Specifically, he shared that Apple recorded record high revenue, double-digit growth in Brazil, Indonesia and Vietnam. The company wants to use the iPhone as a springboard to increase its presence in these markets and move towards promoting other products.
According to data from market research firm GfK, in October 2022, Apple's market share in Vietnam was 20.5%, second only to Oppo.
There are two Apple Stores in the world where you can only buy accessories there.
