Polish President Andrzej Duda attends a military parade in Warsaw on August 15.
At the opening ceremony of the 31st International Defense Industry Exhibition (MSPO) in Kielce (Poland), President Duda announced that the country will increase its defense budget to 137 billion zlotys (33 billion USD) for next year.
"The figure represents more than 4% of Poland's GDP," the leader added, more than double the standard of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), of which Poland is a member.
In recent times, in the face of escalating hostilities in Ukraine, Poland has begun signing many arms purchase agreements, including with the US and South Korea.
In August, the US approved a $12 billion deal to transfer Apache attack helicopters to NATO allies.
