Specifically, in the past two days, rumors have been circulating on social media that the eastern part of Ho Chi Minh City is about to experience serious flooding and a high possibility of a tsunami, leading many people to rush to buy life jackets and stockpile goods.
Regarding the flood discharge, the Center for Management and Exploitation of Irrigation Works of Ba Ria - Vung Tau said that the flood discharge of Song Ray and Song Hoa reservoirs from November 16 to 26 is a normal reservoir regulation and management activity, carried out according to plans and procedures to ensure the safety of the reservoirs after the rainy period. The flood discharge was announced early by the authorities so that people living along the river and downstream of the rivers can be proactive in their daily life and farming.
The agency also confirmed that the flood discharge did not cause serious flooding as rumored.
In addition, according to information from the Southern Hydrometeorological Station, the eastern area of Ho Chi Minh City is forecast to have no serious heavy rain or tsunamis in the coming days.
Therefore, localities advise people not to believe in false rumors on social networks. At the same time, they are asked not to spread unverified information that causes panic in the community; and not to rush to hoard goods or buy unnecessary items.
