In the early morning of October 29, the much-anticipated match between two former Real Madrid stars - Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo - ended with a 2-1 victory for Benzema's Al Ittihad. Despite having to play with one less player from the 49th minute after Ahmed Al Julaydan received a red card, Al Ittihad still stood firm and won a ticket to the next round.
Benzema opened the scoring for Al Ittihad in the 15th minute, before Houssem Aouar sealed a 2-1 win. Meanwhile, Ronaldo played the full 90 minutes but did not score, only had one shot on target and became the focus of criticism for his lackluster performance.
Immediately after the match, Benzema posted a photo on his personal Instagram celebrating the victory. Notably, the photo included Ronaldo in the distance, looking as if Benzema was celebrating provocatively in front of CR7.

Benzema's controversial post. |
Although Benzema did not mention Ronaldo by name, the post quickly caused a stir online. Many fans believed that the French star was deliberately mocking Ronaldo after causing Al Nassr to be eliminated.
Some fans commented: "It's disrespectful for Benzema to celebrate like this." Another account wrote: "Benzema doesn't need to be provocative after a win." Meanwhile, Al Ittihad fans were excited: "This is a message for Ronaldo and Al Nassr - the real king is back!"
Saudi Arabian media also spoke out about the incident, saying Benzema’s post “does not match the professional image” of a player who won the Ballon d’Or. Some other opinions defended the former Real Madrid star, asserting that he was just celebrating a big win after a difficult series of matches for Al Ittihad.
