Dehydration
“Alcohol is a diuretic, which can increase urine production and cause dehydration,” says trainer Jayant Jawa in Karnal, India.
When you are already dehydrated from drinking alcohol, exercising will only make the situation worse. Dehydration can lead to reduced endurance, impaired cognitive function, and reduced physical performance.
Electrolyte imbalance
Drinking alcohol upsets the balance of electrolytes in your body, including sodium, potassium, and magnesium. These electrolytes are essential for muscle function, nerve signaling, and overall energy production.
Increased risk of injury
Consuming alcohol while exercising can slow your reflexes, making it difficult to maintain form and technique while exercising, which can lead to muscle strains, sprains or injuries.
Nausea
Hangovers often cause nausea, stomach pain, and acid reflux. Physical activity while experiencing these conditions can aggravate the symptoms, making it difficult to exercise.
Rest
If you are experiencing severe symptoms such as dizziness, extreme fatigue, or persistent nausea, it is best to avoid exercising until you have fully recovered. Pushing yourself too hard while intoxicated can affect your overall health.
