Long An Press 'Bridge' between culture and tradition

In the flow of modern social life, preserving and promoting traditional cultural values has become an urgent requirement. In particular, the press plays the role of a "bridge", connecting the past and the present, connecting and promoting culture and traditional values to the public. With persistent efforts in maintaining and implementing as well as innovating the content and form of programs, the provincial press has contributed significantly to the preservation, promotion and dissemination of Long An culture to the community.

Long An is a land rich in cultural and historical traditions with 127 national and provincial historical relics, 5 national intangible cultural heritages and is one of the cradles of the art of Southern amateur music - a representative intangible cultural heritage of humanity.

The Party Committee and People of Long An also have a glorious tradition of patriotism with the eight golden words “Loyalty, courage, and resilience, the whole people fight the enemy”. These are the solid foundations and valuable “assets” of the locality in the journey of construction and development.

Through Cultural Regions Program at Long An Radio and Television Station in September 2020

Accompanying the Party, government and people in the province from the resistance war to the years of building and developing the homeland, the provincial press has always closely followed the development of all aspects of the province, including culture.

Since the early years after the country's reunification, Long An Newspaper and Long An Radio and Television Station (now Long An Newspaper and Radio and Television Station) have always given special priority to the fields of culture and arts.

Many cultural programs and sections have been developed and maintained to contribute to building cultural people, promoting, introducing and preserving traditional cultural and artistic values in the province.

Journey of a Thousand Miles

In order to contribute to preserving good cultural values as well as eliminating harmful and hybrid cultures that are not in line with traditional customs and traditions, both Long An Newspaper and Long An Radio and Television Station have many articles and reports introducing and promoting traditional occupations, craft villages , specialty dishes, arts, traditional festivals, etc. to help people better understand the unique cultural features of their homeland.

Among them, there are columns and programs that have been maintained regularly for a long time as a hyphen between the past and the present, traditional culture and modern life. Among them, we must mention the radio program Through the Cultural Region (QMVH) with 13 years of broadcasting, loved by listeners inside and outside the province.

QMVH is a radio program broadcast by 4 radio and television stations: Long An, Tay Ninh, Tra Vinh and Ba Ria-Vung Tau. Each program has many sub-sections, both interacting with guests who are experts in the fields of culture and art, and learning about the cultural characteristics of each province such as cuisine , tourism, etc. 13 years of regular maintenance is the same number of years the program has brought listeners to "visit" every "corner" of their locality, "enjoy" many famous specialties as well as understand more about the traditions and culture of each land.

The Long An Land and People column has been maintained with one article per week for many years, helping people better understand their homeland.

Editor Diem Trang - a member of the QMVH crew, shared: “13 years have passed, more than 150 broadcasts of the QMVH program have overcome many difficulties and challenges, although sometimes a bit quiet, the determination of the entire program crew is to contribute to spreading good cultural values to friends in the region and nationwide.

There will be many changes in the coming time, will QMVH continue to accompany the listeners or not? But we, the program producers, hope that our dear viewers and listeners will always remember the name QMVH with many beautiful and meaningful memories.

Also with the goal of introducing and promoting the traditional cultural and historical values of the locality, the column Long An Land and People was formed and maintained with one article per week for many years in Long An Newspaper (now Long An Radio and Television).

The section introduces to readers famous people, historical figures of the province, Long An people with many outstanding achievements in their careers; places and relics associated with the culture and history of fighting against foreign invaders; customs, habits, characteristics, specialties of Long An;... contributing to helping people understand more about their homeland.

The articles in this section not only review places and characters, but also focus on telling stories and details that few people know well, thereby helping readers love and be proud of their homeland more.

There are places that if we pass by, we will only see a stele, a monument or a quiet temple, but if we stop and learn more, there will be stories about the bravery, patriotism as well as the talent and virtue of the previous generation.

And the "footsteps"

Culture, history, and tradition are spiritual assets. If we want to pass them on and preserve them, there is no other way than to "retell" them from generation to generation, in many different forms.

Understanding the role and responsibility of the “storyteller”, the provincial press always seeks to “renew” its “stories” to bring information closer to readers, audiences, and listeners in the province and the whole country.

In the era of increasingly developing technology, social networks become popular and attractive, journalists in the province are constantly renewing themselves and innovating in each product.

Participating in the television program Long An - Imprint of Time of Long An Newspaper and Radio and Television Station, editor Ngoc Han said she always feels lucky.

“The more I work, the more I love my homeland, love life, and most of all, I clearly feel how to live with gratitude: gratitude for sacrifice, gratitude for cultural values preserved over time, gratitude for those who have passed them on so that I can listen, be proud, and make reports” - editor Ngoc Han shared.

And that is also the reason why she always tries to innovate in each of her works.

Taking on the roles of scriptwriter, presenter and film editor, she wants the product to best express the author's intentions as well as "bring out" the "soul" of the place and characters and "keep" the audience with the program, thereby contributing to fostering national pride , love for the homeland and country, specifically cherishing and being grateful for the land and people where one was born.

Taking advantage of her background as a music editor, Ms. Ngoc Han focuses on using music to add emotion to television works.

In addition, to "pull" young people to "stay", she also aims to "catch the TikTok trend" of melodies that are loved by young people. And to harmoniously and appropriately arrange the traditional and modern in the same work always requires a lot of effort.

During the years of resistance until after the country's reunification, the team of journalists of Long An Newspaper and Radio and Television Station constantly made efforts to act as a "bridge" to promote and preserve local culture.

Editor-in-Chief of Long An Newspaper and Radio and Television Station - Le Hong Phuoc affirmed: "Along with the political tasks, Long An Newspaper and Radio and Television Station pay special attention to developing the cultural and artistic fields, strengthening propaganda and promotion of culture and arts to help people understand clearly and deeply about local culture and history, thereby having thoughts and actions towards the goal of truth, goodness and beauty, contributing to building the culture of Long An people in the new period".

During the journey of accompanying the development of the province, many cultural columns and programs on Long An Newspaper and Radio and Television were built and closed when their missions were completed; there are also programs and columns that continue to be innovated and maintained to accompany the Party Committee and the People in the province.

No matter what changes, the spirit of preserving, promoting and fostering pride in Long An culture will still be the mission of the press in the province to contribute to building the culture of Long An people./.
