Increase mobilization of hydropower resources
According to statistics from Vietnam Electricity Group, in the first 5 months of 2025, the total electricity output of the entire system reached 127.6 billion kWh, an increase of nearly 2.7% over the same period in 2024 and an increase of 25.3% over the same period in 2023, of which, hydropower plants were mobilized to produce 25.7 billion kWh, an increase of 6.6 billion kWh over the same period in 2024. Currently, the weather is in the hot season, the demand for electricity is high, especially at noon on June 2, the national electricity consumption capacity recorded a record high with a peak capacity of 51,290MW, 1,757MW higher than the peak of 2024. However, most hydropower reservoirs in the country are storing a lot of water in the lake to ensure electricity and water supply for downstream areas during the peak of the 2025 dry season, especially in the month of June. 6.
According to Vietnam Electricity, during the peak dry season this year, the group will coordinate to increase the exploitation of hydropower reservoirs, ensure optimal operation of power sources; shift the generation time of small hydropower sources in the North when necessary in June 2025. Power generation units ensure enough fuel for electricity production according to system demand, absolutely not allowing incidents to occur during the peak dry season months. The National Power Transmission Corporation ensures the highest availability of power lines and equipment; continues to strengthen the review and effective implementation of solutions to minimize transmission grid incidents. Power corporations and power companies continue to closely coordinate with local authorities to implement solutions to save electricity and control loads; propagate, guide and support people and businesses to effectively implement the direct electricity purchase and sale mechanism and the mechanism to develop self-produced and self-consumed rooftop solar power sources...
Deputy Director of Da Nang Power Company Limited Nguyen Dinh Tuan said that in order to proactively respond to power supply situations, the company has been implementing many synchronous solutions to ensure stable power supply during this year's hot season. The company has coordinated with the Department of Industry and Trade to implement many programs to build a green, clean, civilized lifestyle through safe, efficient, economical use of electricity and environmental protection.
Improve safety of power supply
This year's hot season, ensuring safe, stable and continuous power supply for the center of Da Nang city has an additional advantage as the 220kV Hai Chau transformer station and the 220kV Hoa Khanh - Hai Chau line, the 110kV Thuan Phuoc transformer station and the 110kV Thuan Phuoc - Chi Lang line have been put into operation. Along with that, the 110kV line 2, District 3 - An Don has been constructed to ensure power supply for the area with strong development in services and tourism in Son Tra district. In particular, when the national ultra-high voltage (500kV) power transmission system has a problem, the electricity industry will deploy a "black start" plan for power sources in the upper reaches of the Vu Gia and Thu Bon rivers to supply power directly to Da Nang city, including the plan to operate the A Vuong hydropower plant to directly generate electricity to the two 220kV Hoa Khanh and Hai Chau transformer stations.
Recently, the City People's Committee approved the investment policy for the Khue Trung 110KV Transformer Station project and the connection system with a total capital of about 150 billion VND. The City is also carrying out procedures to approve the investment policy and simultaneously approve the investor of the Hai Chau - Ngu Hanh Son 220 kV Transmission Line project to close the "circle" to improve the level of safe, continuous and stable power supply for the city. In Decision No. 1577/QD-UBND of the City People's Committee on a number of tasks and solutions to implement Decision No. 95/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister on the plan to implement the Da Nang City Planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, the power supply network will continue to be invested in and developed with many works and projects, including encouraging the development of many renewable energy sources to serve socio -economic development and contribute to environmental protection, reducing carbon emissions, towards the goal of net emissions of "0" (Net zero) by 2050. Accordingly, the city assigned the Department of Industry and Trade to preside over and coordinate the implementation of encouraging investment in the development of rooftop solar power, waste-to-energy (waste-to-energy), biomass power, offshore wind power, etc.
From now until 2030, the city strives to develop an additional 30MW of rooftop solar power capacity allocated in the plan to implement the VIII power plan, and put into operation the solid waste (garbage) incineration plant project in Khanh Son with a capacity of 18MW. At the same time, coordinate with the electricity industry to implement the project to construct the 500kV line 2 Da Nang - Doc Soi; increase the capacity of the 500kV Da Nang transformer station and the 220kV Ngu Hanh Son transformer station; build new 220kV transformer stations Lien Chieu, Airport, Tien Sa and connecting lines... to serve socio-economic development, especially free trade zones, semiconductor zones, data centers... to be formed in the future so that Da Nang city can maintain double-digit growth as required by the Central Government.
