Ensuring environmental sanitation for people's lives

In recent times, prolonged heavy rains in the province have caused flooding and landslides, seriously affecting people's lives and the environment. To overcome the consequences, minimize the risk of pollution and proactively prevent and combat epidemics after natural disasters, the Provincial Party Standing Committee has issued a document requesting the strengthening of environmental protection work.

Prolonged heavy rains caused flooding and landslides, causing serious damage to property, infrastructure and the lives of local people in the province. The consequences of natural disasters not only disrupt daily life but also pose the risk of environmental pollution and disease outbreaks.

Immediately after the flood, the whole province recorded a huge amount of garbage and mud. In just the first few days, the urban area generated about 10,000 - 12,000 tons of garbage and mud, not to mention hundreds of tons of industrial waste and hazardous waste from industrial parks, mining and processing facilities. On some roads and residential areas, the thick garbage and mud stretched for hundreds of meters, directly affecting the living environment and activities of the people.

Currently, Thai Nguyen has 21 waste treatment facilities, including 3 large-scale factories, along with an urban wastewater treatment system that meets about 65% of the demand. Every day, the whole province generates about 600 - 700 tons of household waste and hundreds of tons of industrial waste and hazardous waste. After rain, the amount of waste increases sharply, mud and soil overflow into residential areas, putting great pressure on the province's waste treatment system.

Mr. Nguyen Van Viet, Director of the Grinding Stone Factory, said: The factory currently processes about 300 tons of garbage per day and will increase its capacity to 1,000 tons per day, focusing especially on processing the amount of garbage generated after floods, including domestic and industrial waste and hazardous waste, to reduce the load on landfills, limit environmental pollution and contribute to restoring a green, clean landscape for affected residential areas.

Along with the efforts of local authorities and businesses to handle waste, volunteer groups, organizations and people also actively clean up after the flood. They organize garbage collection, clean mud, plant trees, clean rivers and residential areas, contributing to the rapid recovery of the living environment.

Mr. Nguyen Van Quang, Chairman of Nam Hoa Commune People's Committee, said: "With a large amount of waste after the flood, the commune government has mobilized cadres, people and mass organizations to participate in the general cleaning, and at the same time used specialized machinery to clean up mud, clear sewers and collect waste in flooded residential areas and roads. Mobilizing both people and machinery helps to quickly restore the living environment, reduce the risk of epidemics and create a green - clean - beautiful landscape for people after the flood."

Faced with the situation of large amounts of waste, the Standing Committee of Thai Nguyen Provincial Party Committee issued Official Dispatch No. 132-CV/TU, requesting all levels, sectors and localities to urgently deploy measures to overcome consequences, protect the environment and prevent and control epidemics.

In particular, units are required to carry out general environmental sanitation, collect waste, mud and clear drainage systems; at the same time, spray disinfectants, kill insects, and control domestic water sources to prevent epidemics. Maintaining the collection, classification and treatment of waste, especially medical and hazardous waste, is also a top priority. The Provincial Party Standing Committee calls for the mobilization of military forces, police, organizations and people to participate in cleaning the environment, in order to quickly restore normal life and ensure a green and safe living environment.

Along with that, Thai Nguyen promotes propaganda to raise people's awareness of waste classification at source, recycling and rational use of organic waste; promotes green economy , encourages businesses to apply clean technology, use recycled materials and improve urban landscapes.

Overcoming the consequences of floods is not only about cleaning up garbage and mud but also about protecting a green and safe living environment for the community. The cooperation of the government, businesses and people is the key factor to help Thai Nguyen quickly recover, reduce epidemics and move towards sustainable development.
