On the eve of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's attendance at the 54th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF 54) in Davos (Switzerland), on January 12, Swiss scholar-journalist Guy Mettan published an article on the online newspaper bonpourlatete.com, highly appreciating Vietnam's "bamboo diplomacy " policy and its efforts to produce "Make in Vietnam" chips.
According to a VNA correspondent in Europe, journalist Guy Mettan said that in the early 2000s, he visited Vietnam many times to prepare to write a book about the Geneva Agreement that ended the Indochina War in 1954. The appearance and stature of Vietnam have changed dramatically since then.
The author emphasizes that 2023 is a busy year for Vietnam with its “bamboo diplomacy” policy and efforts to become the new center of the semiconductor industry.
Taking full advantage of the opportunities brought about by the international situation, Vietnam has increased foreign affairs activities and consolidated partnerships.
He said that Vietnam is a country that is strong and flexible, soft and resilient like a bamboo tree, welcoming every gentle breeze and overcoming storms that shake the earth.
Last year, Vietnam had a series of high-level diplomatic activities with other countries, including state visits by US President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping to Vietnam.
Mr. Mettan also mentioned that for the first time the Vatican has a permanent representative in Vietnam and this is a historic moment in Vietnam - Vatican diplomatic relations.
According to the author of the article, Vietnam is expected to achieve Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth of 6-6.5% in 2024 thanks to stronger imports and exports as well as manufacturing activities.
In addition, Vietnam also aims to become a new center of the semiconductor industry with a series of investment projects worth billions of dollars.
Vietnam aims to master 100% of the “Make in Vietnam” chip production stages and plans to train 50,000 specialized engineers by 2030.
The author said that Vietnam is attracting more and more large semiconductor industrial enterprises from the US, South Korea and Taiwan (China).
Currently, Vietnam accounts for more than 10% of the total amount of semiconductor chips imported into the US, ranking 3rd in chip exports to the US, after Malaysia and Taiwan.
