On April 21, at the meeting with voters of Can Tho City chaired by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, Ms. Ngo Thi Thao - General Director of HANAGOLD Gold and Gemstone Joint Stock Company - highly appreciated the Prime Minister's close direction and the role of the State Bank in managing the gold market in recent times.
However, Ms. Thao also said that the gold market still has many shortcomings, such as: non-transparent listed prices, fragmented market information, uncontrolled buying and selling price differences, and lack of common standards for gold transactions.
Ms. Ngo Thi Thao believes that digital transformation in management has gradually made the gold market more transparent, popularized safe investment and increasingly protected consumers. However, the jewelry industry has not been prioritized in the digital transformation process. From practical operations, Ms. Thao recommends that the Government soon issue a digital transformation orientation for the gold industry, in order to build a modern, transparent, fair market, protecting the rights of consumers and investors.
Regarding gold market management, Mr. Truong Canh Tuyen - Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee - said that under the direction of the Government, the State Bank has implemented many solutions to stabilize the gold market. Ensuring supply and reasonably regulating the relationship between the domestic and international markets. However, the reality is still a lack of transparency in listed prices, scattered market information and lack of common standards in transactions.
Mr. Tuyen agreed with the voters' proposal to promote digital transformation in the gold, silver and gemstone sector, which is an inevitable trend to increase transparency, reduce risks for consumers and create a foundation for more effective management by authorities. The People's Committee of Can Tho City pledged to closely follow the Central Government's direction and coordinate the implementation of solutions to promote digitalization of the jewelry industry in the coming time.
Speaking at a meeting with voters, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said the Government is considering amending Decree No. 24/2012/ND-CP on the management of gold trading activities, as it is no longer suitable to reality.
"The police have initiated a case at Saigon Jewelry Company (SJC); they will continue to handle a number of other organizations in the near future. Those who do the right thing and do well will be supported, while those who do wrong and violate the law must be strictly punished. I request the Ministry of Public Security to investigate and handle businesses that commit acts of smuggling, hoarding, price gouging, tax evasion, and laxity," the Prime Minister emphasized.
