Bayer Leverkusen appoints coach to replace Ten Hag

(Dan Tri) - Immediately after firing coach Erik Ten Hag, Bayer Leverkusen appointed Kasper Hjulmand to the "hot seat" with the goal of competing for rankings in the Bundesliga.

Kasper Hjulmand's contract with Bayer Leverkusen runs until June 2027 and the Danish tactician will make his debut against Eintracht Frankfurt in round 3 of the Bundesliga at BayArena on September 12.

Hjulmand previously managed the Danish national team and helped the team reach the semi-finals of Euro 2020, where Denmark narrowly lost to England in extra time.

Following the 2-0 defeat to Germany in the round of 16 at Euro 2024, Hjulmand resigned as head coach of the Danish national team after 4 years. He was also head coach of Mainz 05 in the 2014-15 Bundesliga season.
