Kasper Hjulmand's contract with Bayer Leverkusen runs until June 2027 and the Danish tactician will make his debut against Eintracht Frankfurt in round 3 of the Bundesliga at BayArena on September 12.
Hjulmand previously managed the Danish national team and helped the team reach the semi-finals of Euro 2020, where Denmark narrowly lost to England in extra time.
Following the 2-0 defeat to Germany in the round of 16 at Euro 2024, Hjulmand resigned as head coach of the Danish national team after 4 years. He was also head coach of Mainz 05 in the 2014-15 Bundesliga season.

"We are delighted to have Kasper Hjulmand, who we have been closely following for a long time. He will now help the team rebuild a clear and proactive style of play.
Kasper is the right person to develop our team into a top team, striving to achieve ambitious domestic and international goals," Bayer Leverkusen's sporting director Simon Rolfes said when the club signed the Danish strategist.
Fernando Carro, CEO of Bayer Leverkusen, added: "In addition to his excellent technical skills as a coach, Kasper Hjulmand's leadership principles have also impressed us.
A newly formed team like ours, with the potential to grow, needs clear direction and will benefit from Kasper's transparent, communicative and empathetic style."
During the contract signing ceremony, coach Kasper Hjulmand also excitedly shared: "I have always considered Bayer Leverkusen to be a well-run, well-structured and ambitious club. This impression has been reinforced over the past few days.
It is an honour to be entrusted with such a team. After the great successes of the past, I am excited about the task of shaping the future of Bayer Leverkusen with new experienced and talented players."
