Ten Hag was sacked by MU last October, after only winning 3 of the opening 9 matches of the 2024/25 season.

Last May, the Dutch coach was appointed by Leverkusen to the hot seat, replacing Xabi Alonso who moved to Real Madrid.

The German team had a tour in Brazil, with a seemingly easy debut match for Ten Hag and his team, against the U20 Flamengo team.

The former MU coach put out a strong starting lineup, continuing to use the 3-4-1-2 formation, with the appearance of new recruits Mark Flekken, Jonas Hofmann and Victor Boniface.

However, after an hour of play, Leverkusen showed an unprecedentedly bad performance, allowing the young Brazilian boys to score 5 goals.

It was only when Ten Hag brought on Xhaka, Alex Grimaldo and Patrick Schick that things improved a bit, scoring a consolation goal through Montrell Culbreath.

The heavy defeat was the first time Leverkusen were without Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong, both of whom joined Liverpool for a combined £145.5m.

The 2023/24 Bundesliga champions have added Flekken, Jarrell Quansah and Malik Tillman, but coach Ten Hag has a mountain of work ahead of him.
