Inside China's first superyacht, with a capacity of more than 5,000 people

The first domestically built mega-yacht, Adora Magic City, began sea trials last weekend after five years of design and construction. It will then embark on its first commercial voyage in January 2024. Tickets were sold out in September.

According to the China State Shipbuilding Corporation, the mega- cruise ship is one of the most challenging shipbuilding projects and its success has marked the strength of the country's shipbuilding industry. Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding (SWS), the construction unit of "Adora Magic City", said the superyacht is 323.6 meters long, has a gross weight of 135,500 tons and can accommodate up to 5,246 passengers in a total of 2,125 rooms.

Over the past five years, SWS has cooperated with 361 tier-1 suppliers and 1,105 tier-2 supporting enterprises, with more than 5,000 technicians from 30 countries participating in shipbuilding. A series of core technologies related to electrical systems, cabin environment, noise vibration and other areas have been solved, according to Xinhua.

China's first domestically built superyacht will officially sail to Northeast Asia in January 2024.

The superyacht has 16 floors and a total of 40,000m2 of public living and entertainment space.

Cruise passengers can enjoy a variety of performances, including sitcoms and live music shows. According to the cruise operator, a musical called “Marco Polo: The Untold Love Story” will be staged in the theater, which can accommodate up to 1,000 people.

The largest cruise ship currently in operation is the Icon of the Seas, which can accommodate nearly 10,000 people. However, the two superyachts are similar in length, while the Adora Magic City is 323.6m long and 16 stories high, while the Icon of the Seas is 365m long and 20 stories high.

Carrying more than 5,000 people at a time, Adora Magic City has a capacity equal to or greater than other superyachts in operation in the world .
