In recent years, respiratory diseases have been on the rise due to population aging, environmental pollution, exposure to cigarette smoke, fine dust and toxic gases. However, it is worrying that many patients are only diagnosed when complications have developed or the disease has progressed to a severe stage, with a high risk of death and high treatment costs.
Based on the above reality, Gia An 115 Hospital established the Respiratory Unit, under the Department of Internal Medicine, to provide comprehensive diagnosis, treatment and management services for people with respiratory diseases such as bronchial asthma, COPD, emphysema, pneumonia, tuberculosis, bronchiectasis, lung tumors, sleep apnea, etc.

Speaking at the launch of the unit, Dr. Nguyen Duc Loc, Acting Executive Director of Gia An 115 Hospital, shared: “This is something we have cherished for a long time, and today I am very moved that the Respiratory Unit at the hospital can be launched. The collaboration between Gia An 115 Hospital and Ngoc Minh Clinic is a resonance of medical equipment and facilities to improve the quality of diagnosis and treatment. Through that, we hope to bring the best treatment results to patients, while constantly striving to improve professional capacity in respiratory treatment.”
According to Associate Professor, Doctor - Doctor Tran Van Ngoc, Vice President of Vietnam Lung Association, President of Ho Chi Minh City Respiratory Association, opening a respiratory unit is very necessary to properly care for respiratory patients.
“Respiratory specialists are currently in great shortage across the country, and the lack of respiratory specialists is also an urgent problem in some places. Meanwhile, there are many patients with respiratory problems, sometimes having to lie down and use ventilators in the hallways. Major hospitals are overloaded, making it difficult for patients to access treatment. Therefore, the Respiratory Unit at Gia An 115 Hospital was established with the aim of reducing the burden on other hospitals, while enhancing respiratory health care services for patients,” said Associate Professor Tran Van Ngoc.
