After nearly a year of preparation, Tu Du Hospital 2 officially began operating in early November 2025 as scheduled. Doctor Tran Ngoc Hai, Director of Tu Du Hospital, said: “The progress of implementing the 2nd facility in Can Gio commune was completed within 12 months thanks to timely legal support from authorities at all levels. In just a short time, the hospital completed the trial operation phase and officially went into operation.”
With a scale of 300 beds built according to the joint multidisciplinary model, Tu Du Hospital, branch 2, became the first hospital in Ho Chi Minh City to operate based on the coordination of nine specialized and public multidisciplinary units including Tu Du Hospital, Le Van Thinh Hospital, City Children's Hospital, Ear, Nose and Throat Hospital, Dentistry and Maxillofacial Hospital, Dermatology Hospital, Occupational Rehabilitation Hospital, Eye Hospital and Traditional Medicine Hospital.

In just the first three weeks of operation, the hospital received and treated more than 4,200 cases, specifically the number of outpatient visits in Internal Medicine and Surgery increased by 289%, Pediatrics increased by 255%, and Obstetrics and Gynecology increased by 216%.
In particular, the hospital successfully performed an emergency laparoscopic surgery for appendicitis after more than ten days of operation (November 21); a normal birth on December 1 and a safe cesarean section for a 3.2kg baby boy immediately after marked an important development when for the first time in Can Gio, all obstetrics, pediatrics and emergency techniques could be performed on the spot.

For many years, to access specialized medical services, people in Can Gio commune and surrounding areas had to travel 50-70km to the center in a race against time. Since the appearance of Tu Du Hospital 2, this situation has been completely resolved.

The hospital currently provides a comprehensive service system including obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, emergency, surgery, rehabilitation, and traditional medicine. Thanks to modern equipment such as automatic ultrasound machines and information storage and transmission systems connected to tertiary hospitals, people in Can Gio can be examined, treated, and monitored continuously without having to leave the locality.
Dr. Hai shared that Tu Du Hospital 2 not only serves local people but also meets the medical needs of the forces that are constructing key infrastructure and urban projects in Can Gio. Thanks to the linkage mechanism, hospitals coordinate to share expertise, thereby ensuring the highest quality of service.

He added that the goal is to develop Tu Du Hospital, Branch 2, into a safe, high-quality, accessible general hospital, reducing travel and referrals. Along with that, priority is given to implementing multi-specialty, essential paraclinical services, expanding techniques according to the roadmap and connecting consultations with the final line in the city center.
The City Health Department's leaders assessed that the joint multidisciplinary model also aims at the long-term goal of forming a modern medical center in the southern region of the City, capable of implementing specialized techniques such as stroke treatment, endoscopic surgery, neonatal resuscitation and advanced rehabilitation.

Sharing about some development orientations in the coming time, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Anh Dung, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health emphasized: "The hospital will focus on mobilizing specialized doctors from end-line hospitals to form a strong team, at the same time recruiting and training local human resources to build a long-term human resource source."
The establishment of Tu Du Hospital 2 has clearly affirmed the multi-polar health development strategy of Ho Chi Minh City by bringing high-quality services closer to the people, reducing the burden on upper-level hospitals, and ensuring equal access to health care for all people, whether in the center or remote areas.
