On the morning of October 30th, Tu Du Hospital (Ho Chi Minh City) inaugurated its 3.0 Tesla MRI Center, intensive care unit, and emergency unit using funds from the hospital's development budget. Attending the ceremony was Mr. Huynh Thanh Dat, Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam and Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department.
Dr. Tran Ngoc Hai, Director of Tu Du Hospital, said that all three projects were completed 45 days ahead of schedule, all funded by the hospital's recurrent expenditure fund. These projects are practical for treating, caring for, and protecting patients, in accordance with Resolution 72.
Accordingly, the 3.0 Tesla MRI Center, covering an area of 880m², is equipped with two state-of-the-art 3.0 Tesla MRI machines, with scanning speeds of up to 128 slices. This technology shortens scanning time from 45 minutes to just 10 minutes, providing comfort and significantly reducing waiting times for patients.
In particular, the system also applies artificial intelligence (AI) in image processing, assisting doctors in accurately detecting complex diseases, especially from the fetal stage, contributing to ensuring healthy fetal development and improving the quality of the population from the very first days of life.
In addition, the hospital is equipped with a 1.5 Tesla MRI system to enhance diagnostic capabilities and meet the growing demand.
The total investment cost for the two state-of-the-art MRI systems at Tu Du Hospital is nearly 100 billion VND.

"The time spent in the incubator during an MRI scan has been reduced from 45 minutes to just 10-15 minutes, a decrease of more than 3.3 times compared to before. This faster scanning speed is especially important in fetal diagnosis, helping to capture very rapid movements to detect abnormalities early in the womb," Mr. Hai added.
With a 70-bed intensive care unit, Mr. Hai stated that it has been equipped with modern facilities to ensure timely emergency care and resuscitation, protecting and caring for the health of the people. Thanks to this, the hospital has maintained absolute safety for over 200,000 surgeries in 5 years, with the lowest mortality rate (only 3 cases per 100,000).
The emergency reception area, spanning 350m², is well-equipped, modern, and comfortable, meeting the needs for rapid reception, examination, and emergency treatment. The department includes 12 beds (11 hospital beds and 1 isolation ward bed), along with 3 examination tables.

In his congratulatory remarks, Mr. Huynh Thanh Dat, Member of the Central Committee of the Party and Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department, affirmed that this is an important milestone, contributing to improving the quality of healthcare, a source of pride for the hospital, and great news for the health sector of Ho Chi Minh City as well as millions of mothers, children, and families.
According to him, the 3.0 Tesla MRI system with advanced AI technology will help Tu Du Hospital accurately and quickly diagnose many complex diseases, thereby providing effective and timely treatment plans.
The application of this technology will contribute to improving the early detection of dangerous diseases such as cancer, stroke, neurological problems, vascular problems, cardiovascular problems, musculoskeletal problems, etc.
In particular, with the installation of a 3.0 Tesla MRI system in the intensive care unit, the hospital will have a powerful tool to effectively provide emergency care and treatment for critically ill patients, contributing to a reduction in mortality and complications.
"Modern facilities and equipment are necessary conditions, but the human factor is the real deciding factor for success."
"I hope that with the best investments made today, the hospital's team of doctors, nurses, and technicians will quickly master and effectively utilize the 3.0 Tesla MRI system and other new equipment," Mr. Dat emphasized.
