Tu Du Hospital applies AI in modern MRI, accurately detecting fetal pathology

On the morning of October 30, Tu Du Hospital (HCMC) inaugurated the 3.0 Tesla MRI Center, the intensive care unit, and the emergency room using the hospital's career development fund. Attending the ceremony was Mr. Huynh Thanh Dat - Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission.

Dr. Tran Ngoc Hai, Director of Tu Du Hospital, said that all three projects were completed 45 days early, all using the hospital's career development fund for regular expenses. These projects are practical services for the treatment, care, and protection of patients in the spirit of Resolution 72.

Accordingly, the 3.0 Tesla MRI Center has an area of ​​880m², equipped with two of the most modern 3.0 Tesla MRI machines today, with a scanning speed of up to 128 slices. This technology helps shorten the scanning time from 45 minutes to only 10 minutes, bringing comfort and significantly reducing waiting time for patients.

In particular, the system also applies artificial intelligence (AI) in image processing, supporting doctors to accurately detect complex diseases, especially right from the fetal stage, contributing to ensuring healthy fetal development and improving population quality right from the first days of life.

In addition, the hospital is also equipped with a 1.5 Tesla MRI system to enhance diagnostic capacity and meet increasing demand.

The total investment cost of the two modern MRI systems at Tu Du Hospital is nearly 100 billion VND.

"The time spent in the cage during an MRI scan has now been reduced from 45 minutes to just 10-15 minutes, a reduction of 3.3 times compared to before. This fast scanning speed is especially important in diagnosing the fetus, helping to catch very fast movements to detect abnormalities early in the mother's womb," Mr. Hai added.

With a 70-bed intensive care unit, Mr. Hai said that it was invested in modern technology to ensure timely emergency and resuscitation work, and to protect and care for people's health. Thanks to that, the hospital has maintained absolute safety for more than 200,000 surgeries in 5 years, with the lowest mortality rate (only 3 cases/100,000).

The emergency reception area has an area of ​​350m², is spacious, modern and convenient, meeting the needs of quick reception, examination and emergency treatment. The department has 12 beds (11 hospital beds and 1 bed in the infection isolation room), and 3 examination tables.

The application of this technology will contribute to improving the ability to detect early dangerous diseases such as cancer, stroke, neurological, vascular, cardiovascular, musculoskeletal problems...

In particular, with the installation of the 3.0 Tesla MRI system in the emergency resuscitation area, the hospital will have an additional powerful tool to effectively rescue and treat severe and critical patients, contributing to reducing mortality and complications.
