On December 13th, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health announced that the second branch of Tu Du Hospital in Can Gio has initially met the healthcare needs of residents in the coastal area of Can Gio commune and surrounding areas, after one month of official operation.
The number of medical examinations and treatments has steadily increased, and many critical cases have been surgically treated in a timely manner.
According to a summary report from November 10th to December 10th, Tu Du Hospital's second facility received over 5,000 outpatient visits, averaging 255 visits per day. The number of visits increased steadily each week, demonstrating the growing trust of the public in the new medical facility.
Internal medicine, pediatrics, surgery, obstetrics, traditional medicine, ophthalmology, otolaryngology, dermatology, dentistry, and other specialties have been implemented in a coordinated manner.
Common disease groups such as hypertension, upper respiratory tract infections, bronchitis, pregnancy monitoring, diabetes, etc., account for a high percentage, accurately reflecting the disease pattern in the community, the healthcare needs of the people, and the appropriate technical services of the hospital.
During this period, the hospital also performed 12 surgeries and 2 normal deliveries, including many important techniques such as: laparoscopic appendectomy, bone fixation surgery, cesarean section, and emergency laparoscopic treatment of ruptured ectopic pregnancy.
Notably, many critical emergency and obstetric cases have been successfully handled right in Can Gio, saving patients from having to travel far to the city center. Typical examples include appendicitis surgery, emergency care for a pregnant woman from Thieng Lieng Island who went into labor late at night, and emergency laparoscopic treatment for a ruptured ectopic pregnancy...
Significantly reduced the number of referrals.
During its initial phase of operation, the hospital recorded 92 referrals, mainly cases requiring specialized interventions or paraclinical techniques not yet available at facility 2.
The transfer was carried out according to indications and procedures, with close coordination between Tu Du Hospital and leading specialized hospitals in the city such as Gia Dinh People's Hospital, 115 People's Hospital, Cho Ray Hospital, Binh Dan Hospital, Children's Hospital, Oncology Hospital, Pham Ngoc Thach Hospital, etc.
Compared to the past, the rate and frequency of hospital transfers have decreased significantly, contributing to saving time, costs, and reducing risks during the transportation process for people in coastal and island areas.
The hospital has received numerous thank-you letters from the public and patients' relatives, expressing their satisfaction with the service spirit, dedication, and professional quality of the doctors, nurses, and medical staff.

In the coming period, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health will continue to direct Tu Du Hospital, Branch 2, to improve its infrastructure, add modern equipment, expand its range of techniques, strengthen human resources, and enhance professional connections, aiming to build it into a modern multi-specialty hospital in Can Gio, better serving the healthcare needs of the people.
