On the third day of competition at the 33rd SEA Games, the Vietnamese athletics team won 2 gold medals, 2 silver medals, and 1 bronze medal.
In the 5,000m race, Nguyen Thi Oanh once again demonstrated her superior class, winning overwhelmingly with a time of 16 minutes 27.13 seconds, securing her 5th SEA Games gold medal in this event.
Finishing second and winning the silver medal was also a Vietnamese athlete, Le Thi Tuyet (16 minutes 34.13 seconds).
The second gold medal of the day went to the mixed 4x400m relay team. Except for Nguyen Thi Hang, who was part of the team that had previously won the SEA Games gold medal, the other three athletes were completely new: Ta Ngoc Tuong, Le Ngoc Phuc, and Nguyen Thi Ngoc. Despite the changes, the gold medal still went to Vietnam with a time of 3 minutes 15.07 seconds.
They overcame the Thai team, which boasted two physically strong athletes: Atkinson Joshua Robert and Onuorah Chinenye Josephine.
In the women's 200m race, young athlete Le Thi Cam Tu caused a surprise by winning the silver medal with a time of 23.05 seconds. She even beat the very strong athlete from the Philippines, Nelson Zion Rose. The winner of this event was Pereira Veronica Shanti (Singapore), who had dominated the 100m and 200m races at the SEA Games since Le Tu Chinh stopped competing.
It's a bit unfortunate that Ha Thi Thu disqualified and her result in this race wasn't counted.
The remaining medal for Vietnam in athletics that day went to triple jumper Vu Thi Ngoc Ha. In her very first jump, she broke her personal best with a performance of 13.68m. Thanks to this, despite suffering an injury, she still managed to win the bronze medal.

Despite their small stature, Oanh and Tuyet left their opponents far behind, by a whole lap.

The next gold medal went to the mixed 4x400m relay team. Le Ngoc Phuc, in his return to the SEA Games, performed well to secure the victory for the Vietnamese athletics team.
