Immediately after the starting signal, Oanh "In" quickly took the lead. With a sound strategy and enduring physical fitness, the runner born in 1995 maintained a steady pace, gradually leaving her rivals behind and making a strong surge in the final laps to cross the finish line first.

Teammate Le Thi Tuyet finished second with a time of 16 minutes 34 seconds 06, securing a double victory for Vietnamese athletics in Thailand.

This gold medal brings Nguyen Thi Oanh's total number of SEA Games gold medals to 13, equaling the record of her senior teammate Nguyen Thi Huyen, making her one of the most successful track and field athletes in the history of the Games.

That achievement spans five consecutive SEA Games, from Kuala Lumpur 2017 to the 33rd SEA Games this year.

Oanh's victory also helped the Vietnamese delegation reach the milestone of 30 gold medals, continuing to chase the host country Thailand on the overall medal standings.

For now, Oanh still has two strong events: the 10,000m and 3,000m steeplechase, where fans expect her to repeat her hat-trick of gold medals and reach a new historical milestone.
