The Republican race is getting more interesting as Mr. Trump still holds the position of the most serious candidate to represent the Republican Party (GOP) to run for the US president in 2024. In a Yahoo News-YouGov poll, former President Trump is leading by 31 points over potential GOP opponent, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, with 52% of the vote.
Ron DeSantis came in second with 21% of the vote, followed by former US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley with 5% and former Vice President Mike Pence with 3%.
According to The Hill on April 1, the poll was conducted among Republicans and Republican-leaning independents, after a Manhattan grand jury in New York approved an indictment against the former US president.

According to Yahoo , the gap between Mr. Trump and Mr. DeSantis has widened significantly since the poll was conducted less than two weeks ago, when the former president led Mr. DeSantis by only 8 points. Mr. DeSantis led Mr. Trump by 4 points in a February poll conducted by Yahoo News-YouGov.
The most recent poll found that 54% of Republicans and GOP-leaning independents want Mr Trump to be the Republican nominee for president in 2024. Meanwhile, just a third of respondents said they want someone else.
When asked about the motive behind the indictment, 43% said political bias was the motive, while 42% said the main motive was to hold Trump accountable.
A majority of respondents (45%) said they believe Trump falsified business records to hide hush money payments to adult film star Stormy Daniels.

Following the Manhattan grand jury indictment, weekend events at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida were suspended. However, supporters gathered outside Mar-a-Lago in Florida on the morning of April 1 and at his golf club in West Palm Beach, Florida, that afternoon.
Late in the morning of April 1, Mr. Trump's motorcade arrived at the golf course on Summit Avenue. Supporters showed up around 12:30 (local time).
Thirteen days ago, Mr. Trump urged his supporters to protest a possible criminal indictment against him. WPTV Newschannel 5 quoted Lori Bella as saying outside Mar-a-Lago: “That’s why we’re here to support him. If anything happens and Mr. Trump asks, we’ll show up, and I’m sure that’s happening all over the country, not just here.”
