Artist Thomas Taylor was one of the first people to read the original manuscript for “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.” Using watercolors and black pencils, the artist created the cover in just two days. His artwork was featured on the cover of the first edition in 1997.
In the cover, the artist depicts the young wizard Harry Potter with his signature dark brown hair, round glasses and lightning scar, ready to board the express train for his first trip to Hogwarts. The auction house said Thomas Taylor's cover was used for several global translations, except for the US market.
According to Sotheby's auction house, the original cover illustration was first auctioned in London, England in 2001, for about four times the estimated price, reaching a record 85,750 pounds (nearly 2.7 billion VND).
