This week, the 8th Vietnam-China border defense friendship exchange will be held at the border gate of Lao Cai province (Vietnam) and Yunnan province (China). This is an important cooperation mechanism between the two countries' armies.
"Brand" in Vietnam - China relations
Speaking to VietNamNet reporters before the Vietnam-China border exchange activities, Chinese Ambassador to Vietnam Hung Ba emphasized that the relationship between the two countries' armies goes hand in hand with the establishment and development of the relationship between the two Parties, with a long-standing tradition of good cooperation.
“Our two countries have always fought side by side in the struggle against invaders and for national liberation, and especially the two armies have always supported each other, forming a warm friendship,” the Ambassador shared.
In the Joint Statement between Vietnam and China on continuing to deepen and elevate the Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership, building a community with a shared future during the visit to Vietnam in December 2023 by General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping, it was stated: “The two sides agreed to further strengthen high-level exchanges between the two countries’ militaries; promote the role of channels such as Border Defense Friendship Exchange, Defense Strategy Dialogue and Hotline between the two Ministries of Defense ... Continue to deepen border cooperation, promote joint patrols on land borders, encourage border posts of the two countries to establish friendly relations, strengthen coordination in border management and protection...”.
“Border defense friendship exchanges have become an important 'brand' in the relationship between the two Parties and two countries,” Ambassador Hung Ba affirmed.
In particular, Chinese Ambassador to Vietnam Hung Ba said that this year marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of this mechanism and is also the 8th time the two sides have organized friendly exchanges. According to him, this activity will contribute to enhancing strategic exchanges between senior leaders of the two countries' armies and further promoting closer relations between the two countries' armies at all levels, further deepening cooperation between the two sides' armies and services, especially the Border Guard.
It also plays an important role in maintaining peace and stability in the border areas of the two countries, promoting economic and trade in the border areas, and people-to-people exchange and cooperation.
"It can be said that the China-Vietnam border area is currently the most peaceful and stable border area, with the most vibrant economic and trade activities, and the closest travel and exchange in the world," Ambassador Hung Ba shared.
The Ambassador expressed his hope that the two armies, following the directions and requirements of the senior leaders of the two Parties and two countries, will promote national defense and security cooperation, continuously summarize experiences and make border defense friendship exchanges more substantial and better, contributing more to the building of a "Vietnam-China Community of Shared Future of Strategic Significance".
The two countries' armies have always been an important pillar in the development of relations between the two Parties and two countries, so Ambassador Hung Ba believes that promoting cooperation between the two armies is to further deepen security and political trust between the two Parties.
In the new situation, Ambassador Hung Ba emphasized that the two countries' armies should take the lead in implementing the strategic consensus reached by the two sides' top leaders; focus on enhancing communication and strategic cooperation; promote information exchange, joint exercises and training; and deepen cooperation in political education and cadre training.
Dien Bien Phu Victory - Great Victory
Vietnam is organizing activities to commemorate and pay tribute to heroic martyrs, Dien Bien soldiers, youth volunteers, and frontline laborers who directly participated in the Dien Bien Phu campaign.
Sharing about this event, Chinese Ambassador to Vietnam Hung Ba said that it was the 70th anniversary of the Dien Bien Phu Victory - a great victory in the just struggle of the invaded and oppressed peoples in Asia, including China and Vietnam, for independence and national liberation. "This is a golden milestone in the history of Vietnam", Mr. Hung Ba said.
In July 1950, at the request of President Ho Chi Minh, Chinese President Mao Zhidong and the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China sent a delegation of military advisors and experts to Vietnam to help and support the Vietnamese people's war against the French. China also provided Vietnam with many guns, artillery, artillery shells, etc.
Ambassador Hung Ba shared that he recently read the memoirs of those participating in the military advisory group. China provided a large quantity of heavy artillery, which the Vietnamese army and people shouldered, overcame great difficulties, and transported to the mountains.
The Dien Bien Phu victory was achieved first of all thanks to the talented leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam led by President Ho Chi Minh, the heroic fighting of the entire Vietnamese Army and people, and the strong support of socialist countries such as China.
“As President Ho Chi Minh pointed out: It is a glorious victory of the Vietnamese people, and at the same time a victory of the forces of peace, democracy and socialism in the world,” Ambassador Hung Ba cited.
