The People's Committee of Binh Dinh province recently held a meeting with a delegation from WPD Group (Germany), led by Mr. Hans-Christoph Brumberg, the Group's CEO for Asia.
During the meeting, Mr. Hans-Christoph Brumberg stated that WPD is a major wind power group in Germany and Europe. In Binh Dinh, WPD Vietnam (a member of the WPD Group) has conducted on-site surveys and wind measurements to assess wind potential and research the development of a wind power project in Vinh Thanh district in the near future.
Providing further information about the project, Mr. Nguyen Hai Duyen, General Director of WPD Vietnam Company, said that in Binh Dinh, from July 2024, the company conducted wind measurements in Vinh Thuan commune, Vinh Thanh district; and simultaneously collected wind data in several areas where wind power projects have already been implemented in Binh Dinh for comparison. The results from the measurements in Vinh Thuan commune show that there are sufficient factors to invest in a wind power project.
According to Mr. Duyen, the company plans to invest in a 143 MW wind power plant project in Vinh Thuan; with a total investment of approximately 4,600 billion VND and a land area of about 48 hectares.
To implement the project, the General Director of WPD Vietnam Company stated that the plan is to obtain official wind data by July 2025; in early 2026, the company will conduct a full assessment of all technical factors to prepare a feasibility study report for the project to be submitted to the People's Committee of Binh Dinh province and the Ministry of Industry and Trade for consideration.
Business representatives expressed their determination to achieve these goals and also hoped that the province would support the proposal to the Ministry of Industry and Trade for inclusion in the Power Development Plan VIII, which would serve as the basis for project implementation.
Furthermore, the company also proposed that the People's Committee of Binh Dinh province consider including the wind power project area in Vinh Thuan in the list of land areas for bidding and selecting investors to implement the project (to be submitted to the Provincial People's Council for approval); and consider organizing the selection of investors for the project in the second quarter of 2026 (when all legal conditions are met).
At the meeting, Mr. Pham Anh Tuan, Chairman of the People's Committee of Binh Dinh province, said that the province identifies wind power as a key economic sector and is attracting investors to develop projects. These are favorable conditions and excellent opportunities for WPD Group.
The Chairman of the People's Committee of Binh Dinh province stated that the province's stance is to support WPD Group's investment in the wind power project in Vinh Thanh.
Therefore, if WPD Group and WPD Vietnam Company find that they have all the necessary elements to proceed with the investment project, they must "act immediately and quickly." The provincial departments and agencies will support the relevant legal procedures to help the group expedite the implementation process.
