Ministry of Education and Training seeks opinions on eliminating high school transcripts and limiting admission wishes

Regarding the admission method based on high school transcripts, the Ministry of Education and Training has proposed a plan to eliminate or continue using it. Statistics from the Ministry also show that in 2025, the admission method based on high school transcripts will account for 42.4%, admission based on high school graduation exam scores will account for 39.1%, and the rest will be other methods.

For many years, the method of admission based on academic records has been one of the main methods for university admission. Not only "lower-rank" schools but also many branded schools use the method of admission based on academic records, with different specific requirements.

Many schools have allocated more quotas for the method of using high school transcripts than the method of using graduation exam results. This has caused many conflicting opinions.

Among them, there are opinions that the admission method based on academic records is a reason for the negative situation of "beautifying academic records".

At the conference, the Ministry of Education and Training also sought opinions on the number of wishes for candidates. There are three options: controlling the maximum number of 5 wishes, 10 wishes or continuing without the current limit.

According to statistics from the Ministry of Education and Training, in 2025, there will be about 852,000 candidates registering for admission with 7.6 million wishes. The number of registrations for 5 wishes is 39.6%, the number of registrations for 10 wishes is 30.9%, over 10 wishes accounts for about 29.5%, over 20 wishes accounts for 6.7%.

This year, universities use 17 admission methods. All are considered at the same time, after candidates know their high school graduation exam scores, instead of early admission with some methods like previous years.

Statistics from the Ministry of Education and Training also show that among more than 1.16 million students taking the high school graduation exam this year, about 310,000 students did not apply for university or college admission, accounting for nearly 27%.
