
The Ministry of Interior is currently seeking opinions regarding the nomination for the title of Hero of Labor for Mr. Nguyen Hanh (Johnathan Hanh Nguyen, holding both Vietnamese and US citizenship), Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Inter Pacific Group (IPPG), Saigon Ward, Ho Chi Minh City.
This consultation is based on Government Decree No. 152/2025/ND-CP dated June 14, 2025, which stipulates the decentralization and delegation of authority in the field of emulation and commendation; and provides detailed regulations and guidance on the implementation of some articles of the Law on Emulation and Commendation.
On December 3, 2025, the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City submitted Document No. 999/TTr-UBND to the Prime Minister for consideration and proposal to the President of Vietnam to award the title of Hero of Labor to Mr. Nguyen Hanh (Johnathan Hanh Nguyen, holding both Vietnamese and US citizenship), Chairman of the Board of Members of the Inter Pacific Group (IPPG), Saigon Ward, Ho Chi Minh City.
Based on the Law on Emulation and Commendation and Government Decree No. 152/2025/ND-CP dated June 14, 2025, the Central Emulation and Commendation Board, Ministry of Interior, is conducting a public consultation as prescribed regarding the case of the aforementioned nomination for the title of Hero of Labor.
The Ministry of Interior stated that comments and suggestions should be sent to the Central Emulation and Commendation Board, located at 103 Quan Thanh Street, Ba Dinh District, Hanoi, for compilation and reporting to the Central Emulation and Commendation Council.
Jonathan Hạnh Nguyễn is nicknamed the "king of luxury brands" for bringing nearly 80 international brands to Vietnam. In 1985, he opened the first commercial flight route between Ho Chi Minh City and Manila (Philippines), laying the foundation for the birth of IPPG. The group invests in multiple sectors including retail, aviation, and real estate.
In recent years, he has devoted much of his money and time to charity. Since the beginning of 2024, Jonathan Hạnh Nguyễn has appeared more frequently at community events, such as visiting hospitals to donate gifts and help those in need.
In September 2024, at a charity auction in Ho Chi Minh City, he spent 500 million VND to buy an item and donated an additional 1 billion VND in cash to support those affected by Typhoon Yagi.
