Ministry of Home Affairs provides new information on district and commune mergers nationwide by 2025

The Ministry of Home Affairs is drafting a report summarizing the work of the first 6 months of the year and deploying tasks for the last 6 months of 2024 of the industry.

53 provinces and cities have completed the overall plan.

Regarding the merger of district and commune-level administrative units in the 2023-2025 period, the ministry stated that it has proactively urged localities to urgently complete the project.

Up to now, 53 provinces and cities implementing the merger of district- and commune-level units in the 2023-2025 period have completed their overall plans.

Of which, the district level merged 49 units (including 9 units subject to rearrangement, 40 encouraged and adjacent units, after rearrangement it is expected to reduce 12 units).

Commune level merged 1,247 units (including 745 units subject to rearrangement, 502 encouraged and adjacent units, after rearrangement it is expected to reduce 624 units).

As of June 30, the Ministry of Home Affairs has received 28/53 applications for administrative unit arrangement of provinces and cities.

In which, preside over the appraisal and completion of the submission to the Government for submission to the National Assembly Standing Committee for consideration and approval of the projects of 5 localities including Nam Dinh, Tuyen Quang, Soc Trang , Can Tho, and Ninh Thuan.

Nine localities are completing the project after appraisal, including Thai Nguyen, Vinh Phuc, Phu Yen, Hai Duong, Quang Tri, Ca Mau, Yen Bai , Binh Dinh, and Tien Giang.

14 localities are completing documents for appraisal, of which 3 localities have conducted surveys: Lao Cai, Thua Thien Hue, Quang Ninh. 11 localities are completing documents: Thai Binh, Hanoi, Dien Bien, Bac Giang, Nghe An, Quang Binh, Hung Yen, Ben Tre, Quang Ngai, Dong Nai, Khanh Hoa.

The report stated that 25 provinces and cities are urgently building and completing the project.
