Ministry of Defense proposes new uniforms for male and female officers and soldiers

The uniform of the Vietnam People's Army (VPA) is the uniform of the VPA, worn on major holidays and important events of the country and the Army; it is the beloved image of "Uncle Ho's soldiers" in the hearts of the people and international friends. Along with the development of the country, the VPA is implementing the goals of the Resolution of the 11th Party Congress of the VPA, in which uniformity in wearing is an inseparable factor.

The draft of the Ministry of National Defense proposes to add a 41 mm diameter military insignia (attached to the kepi cap of general officers) and remove the 28 mm military insignia with double pine branches attached to the soft cap (female officers and professional soldiers use kepi caps instead of soft caps). Thus, female officers will wear kepi caps similar to male officers, replacing the soft, curved-brimmed cloth cap currently used.

The ceremonial uniforms of general officers and professional soldiers of the rank of colonel and lieutenant use the military branch insignia worn on the lapel instead of the single pine branch (currently, the single pine branch is used by the force performing ceremonial and cultural and artistic duties of the Army).

With the ceremonial uniform of male officers, professional soldiers, officer cadets and officer trainees:

The cap has an oval top; the cap buttons of generals, rear admirals, vice admirals, and naval admirals are embossed with the national emblem; those of colonels and party committee officers are embossed with a five-pointed star; in the middle of the front forehead of the cap is a sunshade for wearing military insignia; on the front of the visor is a cord, and below the visor are two ears of rice.

Colors: Army: dark olive cap top, red cap wall; Border Guard: dark olive cap top, green cap wall; Air Defense - Air Force: dark blue cap top, peace blue cap wall; Navy: white cap top, purple cap wall.

Long-sleeved jacket with V-shaped lapels; front with 4 hidden pockets, buttoned pocket flaps; back with slit at the back; shoulder with shoulder strap for rank insignia; logo attached to the top of the left sleeve; bottom of both sleeves with cuffs (general rank in the shape of a pine branch; colonel and lieutenant rank in the shape of a rice flower).

Pants are long dress pants, have 2 diagonal pockets, open-front zipper.

White long-sleeved, collared, loose-fitting shirt.

Ties are pre-tied. For the Army and Border Guards, dark olive, for the Air Defense - Air Force, dark blue, and for the Navy, dark purple.

Leather belts. General, rear admiral, vice admiral, and navy admiral ranks have double-layer leather; colonel and lieutenant ranks have smooth single-sided leather. Army and border guards have brown belts, air defense - air force and navy have black belts.

Leather shoes for generals, rear admirals, vice admirals, and navy admirals are plain-toed, with fixed laces; for colonels, they have horizontal-grained toes, with fixed laces; for lieutenants, they have horizontal-grained toes, with laces. Color: black for the army, border guards, and air defense - air force; white for the navy.

The draft also proposes to amend and supplement the ceremonial uniform for female officers, professional soldiers, officer cadets and officer trainees.
