Minister of Education and Training: Teachers need to act in a way that is worthy of the honor

“The Party, the State, society, parents, and all students honor us teachers and give us good feelings, respect, love, gratitude, and admiration. For our part, we also need to do our part to be worthy.”

This was shared by Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son in his opening speech at the celebration of Vietnamese Teachers' Day on November 20 and the 8th Patriotic Emulation Congress of the education sector for the period 2025-2030.

The event took place this morning, November 17, at Hanoi Pedagogical University.

Special year

According to Minister Nguyen Kim Son, this year's November 20th celebration has many special features as the education and training sector has never had such a position, been given such a mission and received such care and attention as it does today.

Resolution 71 of the Politburo defines “education and training as the top national policy, deciding the future of the nation.” Teachers are considered the driving force for educational development, the decisive factor in the quality of education. Many new policies have been issued by the Party and the State to develop the teaching staff. The Law on Teachers stipulates that teachers’ salaries are ranked highest in the public administrative salary scale. Resolution 71 defines the minimum allowance for teachers at 70%, school staff at 30%, and teachers in disadvantaged areas at 100%. “That is a great joy, an encouragement for those working in education,” said Minister Nguyen Kim Son.

Also according to Minister Nguyen Kim Son, this year, for the first time, the teaching profession has been institutionalized by the Law on Teachers. Ethics, culture, and customs of respecting teachers have been codified, creating legitimacy, sustainability, and transparency for the teaching profession. This is an honor and a legal condition for teachers to promote their social role.

“We teachers also need to be grateful to society for bringing nobility to our profession. We need to repay the trust, care and expectations. All teachers need to strive to cultivate, practice and study continuously to always be a shining example for students to follow, bright enough to shine and guide students, valuable enough to inspire and persuade, especially exemplary in personality, spirit of learning and creativity, love and fairness,” Minister Nguyen Kim Son emphasized.

2025 is also the year that many educational policies are issued and implemented, such as Conclusion No. 91 on continuing to implement Resolution 29; Resolution 57 on breakthroughs in science and technology development, innovation and national digital transformation; Resolution 71 on breakthroughs in education and training development; Resolution on universalizing preschool education for children from 3 to 5 years old; policy on building 248 boarding schools in border communes; actively completing new breakthrough policies on developing the teaching staff to implement the Law on Teachers...

A period of many efforts in the education sector

Summarizing the emulation movement of the education sector over the past 5 years, Minister Nguyen Kim Son said that the sector has had a very special emulation movement, when the whole country responded to the COVID-19 pandemic. The education sector has flexibly adapted, switching to online learning so that students can temporarily stop going to school but not stop learning.

The outstanding result at the general education level is that the education sector has completed the implementation cycle of the new general education program 2018, in which there is a strong shift from knowledge-based education to developing learners' capacity. Up to this point, the important goals of the program implementation have been completed, creating fundamental changes in general education. Key education maintains its achievements in the group of 10 countries with the best exam results worldwide in international Olympic exams.

In terms of higher education, many schools have been present in prestigious ranking groups in the world. Some schools and training majors are in the top 150 in Asia. Many new training programs, new fields, especially in new cutting-edge engineering technology have been implemented. Vocational education has been and is increasingly integrating deeply and widely in the region and the world.

The increase in learning opportunities and lifelong learning of the people and the building of a learning society have also promoted the rapid increase in the scale of the entire education and training system in recent years. The work of promoting learning and talent has achieved good results, the movement to build a community learning model has developed strongly. The work of eliminating illiteracy has achieved good results.

With those achievements, the education and training sector has had many typical advanced examples receiving awards at all levels.

At the ceremony, the Ministry of Education and Training commended typical and advanced collective and individual representatives in the 2021-2025 period, and launched an emulation movement for the 2026-2030 period./.
