Minister of Education and Training: "Teachers also need to show gratitude to society"

The above is the sharing of Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son at the Ceremony to celebrate Vietnamese Teachers' Day and the 8th Patriotic Emulation Congress of the Education Sector (2025-2030), which took place this morning (November 17) in Hanoi.

Expressing gratitude to teachers on the occasion of November 20, the commander of the education sector said that the Party, the State, society, parents, and all students always honor teachers with good feelings, respect, and love.

"On our part, we also need to do what is worthy. Teachers also need to be grateful to society for bringing nobility to their profession. We need to have a reward worthy of the trust, care and expectations.

All teachers need to strive to cultivate, practice, and study continuously to always be a shining example for students to follow, bright enough to shine and guide students, valuable enough to inspire and persuade, especially exemplary in personality, spirit of learning and creativity, love and justice.

With good traditions and with what teachers are trying to do, I deeply believe that we will do those things well," the Minister affirmed.

According to the head of the education sector, this year’s November 20th celebration has many special features. Never before has the education and training sector had such a position, been given such a mission, and been given such care and attention as it does today.

Education and training are identified as the top national policy, deciding the future of the nation. Teachers are considered the driving force for educational development, the decisive factor in the quality of education.

Many new policies have been issued by the Party and the State to develop the teaching staff. That is a great joy and encouragement for those working in education.

This year, for the first time, the teaching profession has been institutionalized by the Law on Teachers. From ancient times to the present, teaching has always been considered a noble profession, and respecting teachers is a traditional value.

Up to now, with the promulgation of the Law on Teachers, the promotion of educators and the protection of teachers have been legalized.

Morality, culture, and customs have been legalized to create legitimacy, sustainability, and transparency for the teaching profession. This is an honor and a legal condition for teachers to promote their social role.

At the event, the Minister of Education and Training said that over the past 5 years, the industry has achieved many outstanding results.

At the general education level, the sector has completed the implementation cycle of the new 2018 General Education Program, in which there is a strong shift from knowledge-providing education to developing learners' capacity.

In the excellent student competitions, especially in the international Olympic competitions, Vietnam has always maintained its position in the top 10 countries with the best exam results in the world. There are teams, groups, and subjects that have reached the top 5 and top 3 countries with the best exam results in the world.

This year, for the first time, the teaching profession is specified in the Law on Teachers (Illustration: Hong Khanh).

Higher education and vocational training have also made progress, with many universities appearing in prestigious rankings around the world. Some schools and training programs are in the top 150 in Asia.

In particular, the Party and State have paid much attention to policies for teachers. Many policy mechanisms have been built, especially the Law on Teachers passed by the National Assembly, helping teachers feel secure in their work.
