Minister of Education and Training talks about the high school graduation exam with 'many special features'

Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son said that the high school graduation exam taking place at the end of June this year 'has many special features'.

According to Chinhphu.vn , at the regular Government meeting on the afternoon of June 4, Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son reported on preparations for the high school graduation exam taking place on June 26-27.

According to Minister Nguyen Kim Son, this is the first high school graduation exam under the 2018 GeneralEducation Program, while the exam is still held in parallel for a number of students under the 2006 General Education Program. This doubles the complexity of the exam questions and candidates compared to previous years.

According to Minister Nguyen Kim Son, the education sector has carefully considered the time to hold the exam. Although there was an opinion to hold it earlier, after analyzing and agreeing with the departments, the Ministry of Education and Training decided to keep the time frame. The Ministry of Education and Training is also closely coordinating with the Ministry of Public Security in ensuring security and safety for the exam.

Minister Nguyen Kim Son also mentioned an important new point this year: the transportation of exam papers. For the first time, exam papers will not be transported in the traditional way but will be transferred via the secure channel of the Government Cipher Committee (Ministry of National Defense).

"This is a huge change, overcoming previous difficulties, such as having to use helicopters to transport candidates to Con Dao," said Mr. Son.

Regarding teacher recruitment in the context of restructuring the apparatus, at the meeting, Minister Nguyen Kim Son said that according to the Prime Minister's direction, all teachers must be recruited according to the allocated quota.

However, according to Mr. Son, the education sector is also concerned that there will be a situation where localities "rush to recruit" before the end of a certain time period, leading to the risk of recruiting the wrong people, for example, when a literature teacher is needed, a math teacher is recruited. Therefore, the Ministry of Education and Training hopes that the Ministry of Home Affairs will coordinate and direct to ensure the quality of recruitment.

This year's high school graduation exam will be held on June 25, 26, 27, and 28. On June 25, candidates will complete exam registration procedures; on June 26 and 27, the exam will be held; and June 28 is the backup time.

Candidates taking the 2018 General Education Program will take the exam with option 2 + 2 (2 compulsory subjects: math and literature; 2 optional subjects).
