Ministry of Construction: Review and report causes of road, waterway and aviation incidents

According to the Ministry of Construction , recently there have been a number of traffic accidents causing great damage to people and property, such as: the oil spill caused by a ship collision on April 25 in Ho Chi Minh City, the passenger bus overturned in Vinh Phuc province on April 26, the plane skidding off the runway at Tan Son Nhat airport on May 7, and the road subsidence in Tay Ninh on May 11...

The Ministry of Construction requested localities to resolutely implement local traffic safety plans, strengthen management of automobile transport business activities; deploy traffic safety solutions in areas attracting a large number of tourists ; proactively enhance safety on waterways during the 2025 flood season.

The Ministry of Construction requested the Department of Roads to preside over the inspection and review of existing shortcomings in the infrastructure system and road traffic organization, and to summarize and report to the Ministry before May 31. The Department of Maritime and Waterways shall closely coordinate with localities in handling oil spill incidents in Ho Chi Minh City, periodically report and propose timely solutions; review and report areas at risk of collision, high risk of collision in maritime and inland waterways, and propose immediate and long-term solutions.

The Civil Aviation Authority urgently reported the cause, organized a meeting to review and comment on the incident of the plane skidding off the runway at Tan Son Nhat. Resolutely implemented the plan to strengthen traffic safety during the peak summer tourist season of 2025.

Most recently, at around 4am on May 11, the road leading to Hoa Binh Bridge (Hoa Hoi Commune, Chau Thanh District, Tay Ninh Province) collapsed and sank about 35m long and 3m deep, causing damage to 1 car, 2 motorbikes and 6 people injured and had to be taken to the emergency room.

According to Tay Ninh Department of Construction, the incident may have been caused by a local mud bag located under the bridgehead road slipping, causing the roadbed and surface to collapse. Up to now, the project has not been accepted, handed over, or put into use. The Department of Construction is coordinating with the District People's Committee and related units to determine the cause and promptly propose a solution. Immediately after the incident, the District People's Committee directed the functional forces to organize traffic flow for this route.
