The Ministry of Health recommends strengthening security and order in medical facilities.

NDO - Regarding the case of a patient's family assaulting a medical staff member while providing emergency care to a patient at Thanh Ba District Medical Center, Phu Tho Province, the Ministry of Health requested the Phu Tho Department of Health to proactively coordinate with local law enforcement agencies to investigate and clarify the case and strictly handle it according to the provisions of the law.

According to the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management, Ministry of Health , on April 27, a number of media agencies and newspapers reported on the assault of medical staff while providing emergency care to patients at the emergency unit of Thanh Ba District Medical Center, Phu Tho Province, causing insecurity and disorder, negatively affecting medical examination and treatment, and the safety of patients and medical staff. This is an "immoral" act that society condemns and needs to be strictly handled.

The Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management requested the Director of the Phu Tho Department of Health to proactively coordinate with local law enforcement agencies to investigate and clarify the case and strictly handle it according to the provisions of law.

The hospital strengthens security and order at medical examination and treatment facilities, focuses on solutions to prevent and minimize cases of insecurity and disorder, including establishing a monitoring and warning system for risks of insecurity and disorder and implementing solutions according to the Law on Medical Examination and Treatment No. 15/2023/QH15; implements the directives of the Ministry of Health on ensuring security, safety and order at medical examination and treatment facilities.

The hospital promptly cares about and encourages the health and spirit of patients and medical staff affected by the above incident.

Previously, at around 5:15 p.m. on April 25, patient KBL (12 years old) was taken by his family to Thanh Ba District Medical Center after a traffic accident. After examination and necessary paraclinical tests, the patient was diagnosed with traumatic brain injury/frontal bone fracture due to a traffic accident/multiple soft tissue injuries.

At 5:30 p.m. the same day, when the nurse administered intravenous antibiotics according to the doctor's orders, 1/3 of the syringe (7ml/20ml of antibiotics) was filled, the patient showed signs of anaphylactic shock, difficulty breathing, rapid pulse, low blood pressure and quickly fell into a state of circulatory arrest.

Recognizing this as an emergency, the on-duty team immediately performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), treated anaphylactic shock according to the Ministry of Health's protocol, and alerted the entire hospital. During the emergency, the patient's family members continuously screamed, causing disorder in the emergency room.

After about 3 minutes of effort, the patient's heart started beating again. After 5 minutes, the patient was awake and could be called and asked. Blood pressure was stable. After 20 minutes, the patient was awake, breathing oxygen through glasses, and could communicate normally with medical staff and family members.

After the patient was stabilized, doctors predicted that the patient might have further brain bleeding in the damaged area. Therefore, the patient was transferred to a medical facility capable of performing brain surgery for further monitoring and treatment.
