As of early April, the country had recorded more than 54,000 cases of measles.

The Ministry of Health predicts that the measles epidemic will generally decrease, but not stop, so we need to be very careful because there will continue to be many cases of rash fever suspected of measles in provinces and cities across the country.

Currently, measles has recorded many cases in adults, with severe progression and recorded deaths.

Last week, the Institute of Tropical Medicine (Bach Mai Hospital) reported the first death from measles in an adult this year. The deceased patient had measles on the background of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and diabetes.

To strengthen measles prevention and control to limit severe cases and deaths, the Ministry of Health recommends measles prevention and control for groups at high risk of severe complications related to measles.

Measles is the most contagious of all infectious diseases and can cause serious complications such as pneumonia, encephalitis, otitis media, corneal ulcers or diarrhea, and even death.

To minimize the risk of severe progression and death related to measles in groups at high risk of severe progression related to measles, the Department of Disease Prevention (Ministry of Health) recommends:

1. People at high risk (people with chronic lung disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, people over 50 years old), especially those with unknown vaccination history and have never had measles, should proactively get vaccinated against measles.

2. People at high risk of measles symptoms such as fever, cough, runny nose, rash should immediately go to medical facilities for examination, timely treatment advice, and to limit serious complications of the disease.

3. Limit contact with people with measles or suspected measles. If contact is necessary, wear a mask and wash your hands after contact with the patient.

4. Improve personal hygiene, nose and throat, keep warm, improve physical condition to increase resistance to prevent measles.

5. Practice good environmental hygiene, keep the working, studying and living environment well-ventilated; regularly clean the surfaces of living, working and studying places.
