Vietnam football lost to Thailand in AFC awards

With its efforts in football development in recent times, VFF is honored to be on the nomination list for the “Football Federation of the Year 2023” award – Diamond category. In this award, AFC assessed that over the past year, member football federations have made continuous efforts to raise the standards of Asian football, continuously improving development programs as well as implementing new programs.

Finally, 4 countries were awarded in this category including Thailand - Diamond category, Japan - Platinum category, Nepal - Gold category, Laos - Ruby category.

VFF President Tran Quoc Tuan received the award from AFC.

In addition, VFF is also honored to be nominated for the AFC President's Award for Youth Football 2023 - Bronze category, recognizing the progress in school football and community movement development. In this category. Vietnam received the Bronze award, India received the Silver award and Australia received the Gold award.

This is a worthy recognition for VFF with many important efforts in developing grassroots, community and school football. In recent years, 7-a-side football has been widely developed in many provinces and cities with a large number of participants. Even 7-a-side football tournaments have been developed at the national level, with a large number of fans following.

Also at the ceremony, the AFC honored many other important categories. The Qatar Football Association was honored as the host of the 2023 Asian Cup. Saudi Arabia received the AFC President's Recognition Award for its consistent contribution to the overall development of Asian football.

On an individual level, the Coach of the Year award went to Go Oiwa, head coach of the Japan U23 team, who won the 2024 AFC U23 Championship. Son Heung-min was named Asia's best international male player in 2024. Ellie Carpenter (Australia) was named Asia's best international female player.

The best female players in Asia are Kiko Seike (Japan), Akram Afif (Qatar).
