The whole country is supporting Lao Cai.

Việt NamViệt Nam01/10/2024

The mountains are scarred with landslides like painful cuts; hundreds of fault lines have erased all traces of roads; many villages are isolated, without roads, electricity, or communication; chaos and destruction are what Lao Cai had to endure during the aftermath of typhoon number 3 (photo below).

Vành A Sếnh, from Trung Hồ village, Trung Lèng Hồ commune, Bát Xát district, is still haunted by the experience: “There was a loud bang, and black earth flew over my head. At that moment, I thought I wouldn’t make it through.”

Humans may seem insignificant in the face of nature's fury, but they are also incredibly strong, for no one is alone, no one is left behind. Roads are being built as if in wartime, even if it means crossing mountains and forests, to reach and rescue compatriots cut off by natural disasters.

Humanity refused to surrender to Mother Nature; roads were built as if in wartime, even if it meant crossing mountains and forests, to reach and rescue compatriots isolated by natural disasters.

Mr. Phan Lao Si, from Ngai Tro village, A Mu Sung commune, Bat Xat district, shared: “Three days after being isolated, the first person found us. Everyone was very happy, and I was very happy too, because someone had finally rescued us.”

From the heart of the flood zone, mainstream media responded to the anxieties and expectations of people nationwide regarding the situation in the disaster-stricken areas. And then, as quickly as possible, unforgettable images emerged.

The roads to Bat Xat, down to Bao Yen, up to Bac Ha, Si Ma Cai… are lined with vehicles patiently inching forward, displaying license plates from all provinces and cities. These vehicles not only carry food, supplies, and necessities, but also the heavy burden of compassion and love from people across the country.

Mr. Hoang Manh Cuong from Vinh City, Nghe An Province, shared: “The group has fully prepared the most essential and practical necessities to support the people and hopes that they will overcome the difficulties caused by the recent storm as soon as possible and stabilize their lives.”

Mr. Truong Quang Hoa from Ho Chi Minh City said: “These free transportation services, connecting with larger transport routes, help reach the most remote areas, the areas where people need help the most. This is a spirit of cooperation, a national spirit showing solidarity from other places to the local area, ready to support each other to achieve the goal of helping our people have the spirit and strength to rebuild together.”

The most painful and difficult days will eventually pass, the villages will be rebuilt, and peace will return. But the people of Lao Cai will never forget the profound gratitude they owe to the entire nation during this time of hardship.
