In the days leading up to Tet, fishing boats from Ba Ria - Vung Tau return one after another after months of fishing far from shore. The long sea trips are well rewarded with a variety of fresh seafood such as tuna, mackerel, shrimp, and squid.
Fresh batches of fish were brought ashore, neatly arranged in rows with all kinds of fresh seafood, making people admire. Traders were also present early to buy seafood, ensuring an abundant supply for the market.
The Tet atmosphere has filled the seafood markets. Locals and tourists from all over the world flock here to choose and buy the freshest seafood.
Fishermen's fishing boats anchored at Ben Dinh, Vung Tau City
While having people load fish ashore, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Ngoc (living in Ward 2, Vung Tau City) said that this was the last fishing trip of the year. After loading all the fish, the captain and crew will return home to celebrate Tet with their families.
Despite a difficult year, Mr. Ngoc's last fishing trip of the year was fortunately full of seafood. According to Mr. Ngoc, of the 3 boats still fishing offshore, one had about 14 tons, including mackerel and tuna. After deducting expenses, Mr. Ngoc's 3 fishing boats earned more than 500 million VND on this trip.

Having a lucky sea trip, not only Mr. Ngoc but also the crew members on the ship are radiant, because in addition to their salary, the crew members will receive a Tet bonus and also receive lucky money from the ship owner, at the end of the year they will have a full and warm Tet with their families.
However, not all fishing boats are as profitable as Mr. Ngoc’s boat. Many other fishing boats, although making profits, are only enough to cover the costs of previous trips, or just enough to pay the crew’s salaries and a small Tet bonus.
Not only big boats, small boats of fishermen also bring full shrimp and fish. After only 2 hours of fishing, the boat of Mr. Tran Thanh Sang (Long Dat district) returned to shore on the morning of January 25 with about 15kg of anchovies, mackerel, and various types of lang tieu.
The last sea trip of the year is full of mackerel and tuna.
As soon as the basket was pulled ashore, a trader quickly came to weigh it, bought all the fish, and paid Mr. Sang nearly 800,000 VND. After deducting expenses (oil, food, and the cost of pulling the basket ashore), he still had a profit of 600,000 VND.
With their fruitful fishing trips, Ba Ria - Vung Tau fishermen have contributed to enriching their homeland and bringing fresh products to consumers. The image of ships docking and fishermen happily celebrating Tet has become a traditional beauty of this coastal region.
