Playing host for the first time since the 2007 SEA Games, and having lost the number one position in the medal tally for the past four editions, Thailand is determined to regain its leading position in Southeast Asia.
Therefore, at the 33rd SEA Games held in Bangkok, Chonburi and Songkhla, Thailand participated in all 50 sports with 1,531 athletes, including 833 male athletes and 698 female athletes. They also set a target of winning 241 Gold medals in 580 events, which means accounting for 41% of the Gold medals of the Games. Particularly in football, they are determined to win all 4 Gold medals in men's and women's football as well as men's and women's futsal.
This is an ambitious number because the best achievement of the Thai sports delegation was 183 gold medals at the most recent SEA Games as host (2007). In addition, the record in the history of the Games is 205 gold medals that Vietnam achieved at the 31st SEA Games in 2022.

Meanwhile, the Vietnamese sports delegation to the 33rd SEA Games has 1,165 members, including 841 athletes and 191 coaches. We will compete in 47 sports, 443 out of 573 events, and aim to win from 90 to 110 gold medals. Among the teams, the athletics team has the largest number of 51 athletes, and also carries the highest target of 12 gold medals, similar to the previous term.
Knowing that it will be difficult to compete with Thailand and Vietnam, Indonesia aims to finish in the top three. Recently, Minister of Youth and Sports Erick Thohir announced that they will send 996 athletes to participate in 48 sports with the expectation of winning 80 gold medals.
According to Mr. Erick Thohir, this number was considered based on many factors, from the achievement of 87 Gold medals at SEA Games 32 and the calculation of more than 40 Gold medals that will be lost at SEA Games 33 because many events were omitted, as well as compensated by other events, finally between the numbers 78, 82 and 85, the number 80 was chosen.

As for Malaysia, they sent 1,688 members to Thailand, including 1,166 athletes competing in 458 events. With this huge number, the land of palm oil became the largest sports delegation in the history of the SEA Games. At the 32nd SEA Games, Malaysia only ranked 7th with 34 gold medals. They of course want to improve their position, but have not yet revealed a specific goal. According to Head of the delegation Nurul Huda Abdullah, the official number will only be announced on December 3.
As for Cambodia, after withdrawing 8 sports, they will come to Thailand with 150 members, competing in 13 sports. It will be very difficult to repeat the achievement of 81 Gold medals like 2 years ago as host, this time the land of pagodas only hopes to win gold in 5 sports: jiu-jitsu, kickboxing, jet skiing, teqball and e-sports. However, according to calculations by Thai media, Cambodia can win 7 Gold medals.
At the 33rd SEA Games, Brunei sent 135 members with 65 athletes competing in 9 sports. Their goal is to compete as best as possible, and it would be great if they could surpass the achievement of 2 Gold medals achieved in the previous edition.
