The information was stated at the meeting of the City Steering Committee for Examinations and Admissions for the 2025-2026 school year held on the afternoon of April 25.

According to the announced plan, the enrollment period for kindergarten, grade 1 and grade 6 for the 2025-2026 school year in Hanoi officially begins from July 1.

The admission method is based on the admission route prescribed by the People's Committee of the district, town or city.

Specifically, Hanoi continues to apply online enrollment; enrollment for grade 1 from July 1 to July 3; enrollment for 5-year-old preschoolers from July 4 to July 6; enrollment for grade 6 from July 7 to July 9. Direct enrollment period is from July 12 to July 18.

Some opinions said that from July 1, the new government apparatus after the citywide arrangement will officially operate, many communes and wards will be merged and no longer have district and county levels, while the plan for preschool, grade 1 and grade 6 enrollment has been approved before, so the organization of enrollment may encounter some problems. Therefore, opinions suggested that the city consider and adjust the enrollment time for preschool, grade 1 and grade 6 earlier than the announced plan, possibly in June.

Regarding this, Ms. Vu Thu Ha, Vice Chairwoman of Hanoi People's Committee, said that the goal set in organizing exams and admissions in the city in 2025 is to ensure progress and quality, without causing disruption or affecting students.

Therefore, despite the change in administrative units, Hanoi still maintains the plan and time for organizing preschool, grade 1 and grade 6 enrollment for the 2025-2026 school year.

According to Mr. Tran The Cuong, Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, basically, enrollment in the first grade classes in the area this year has not changed compared to last year.

“In previous years, in a few schools, there was a phenomenon of parents lining up in front of the gate, 'reserving bricks' to register their children for admission. This was very offensive and caused outrage in public opinion. Therefore, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training has directed all facilities in the area, including public and private schools, to apply digital transformation ineducation and online admission for all primary school students. This year, we continue to maintain this to strengthen the campaign for parents not to create pressure that affects public opinion about the beauty of schools in the current context,” said Mr. Cuong.

Regarding enrollment in high-quality schools or schools with more registrations than quotas, Mr. Cuong said that the Department has issued a document instructing schools to still implement the admission method according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training and can combine the use of student evaluation criteria in the form of writing, questions and answers, etc.
