This activity is within the framework of the National Action Month for HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control (from November 10 to December 10, 2024), organized by the Ministry of Health with central and provincial bridges. At the Quang Nam bridge, there was the participation of members of the Provincial Steering Committee for HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control.
Speaking at the rally, Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long - Chairman of the National Committee for AIDS, Drug and Prostitution Prevention and Control emphasized that the message of this year's World AIDS Day is "Accompanying, sharing, being resilient". This is a call for every citizen, every organization, every community and every country to join hands in taking action, sharing responsibility and showing resilience to protect their own health and that of the community.
To achieve the goal of ending the AIDS pandemic in Vietnam before 2030, Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long requested ministries, branches, central and local agencies, and socio- political organizations to identify HIV/AIDS prevention as a content in the socio-economic development plan; continue to effectively implement the Party and State's policies and guidelines; increase investment and budget allocation to ensure finance for HIV/AIDS prevention; continue to innovate and improve the quality of information, propaganda, and education, especially against stigma and discrimination related to HIV/AIDS.
The Deputy Prime Minister requested the health sector to mobilize and effectively use all resources, promote the application of science and technology, and achievements of the 4.0 industrial revolution; deploy professional solutions and create favorable conditions for people to access HIV/AIDS prevention services; mobilize the participation of the private health sector in disease treatment, improve professional capacity and skills, and have appropriate remuneration policies for the team working in HIV/AIDS prevention.
People living with HIV need to have a positive outlook and new thinking about living with HIV, promoting rights and health care for themselves and others in similar situations, towards a society without discrimination and a future without HIV/AIDS...
Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan said that in recent years, the Ministry of Health and localities across the country have strongly implemented HIV/AIDS prevention and control activities with a comprehensive approach, providing full services from prevention, testing and treatment of HIV/AIDS.
In 2023, Vietnam led the Asia-Pacific region in the number of people receiving PrEP treatment, helping to control 98% of users and avoid the risk of HIV infection. Vietnam is one of the world's leading countries in the quality of HIV treatment, with over 97% of people infected with HIV treated with antiretroviral drugs having an undetectable viral load.
Many models and initiatives on providing HIV/AIDS prevention and control services have been researched, applied and implemented in accordance with the changing context of the HIV epidemic, thereby always maintaining control of the HIV epidemic, gradually moving towards the 95-95-95 target set out in the National Strategy...
Mr. Eamonn Murphy - Director of the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS for Asia - Pacific and Eastern Europe and Central Asia - called for, more than ever, the time for Vietnam to concentrate all its efforts to strengthen the HIV response to achieve the country's goals. Highly effective HIV prevention interventions need to be further expanded.
Actions to reduce stigma and discrimination and ensure that HIV prevention and control services are accessible to all who need them need to be intensified.
According to Mr. Eamonn Murphy, to achieve the goal of "Reducing the number of people infected with HIV, AIDS-related deaths, and ending the AIDS epidemic in Vietnam by 2030", Vietnam needs to make efforts in policy development and inter-sectoral coordination in HIV prevention and control.
