BHG - The names of villages, communes, provinces, regions, etc. are indispensable to identify the place, people and culture of each land. This is probably a common feature in the world , not just in Vietnam. When we grow up, we all have a beloved hometown with the name of the village or commune always imprinted in our souls, so that when we go far away, the call of homeland always evokes our memories.

Place names such as villages, communes, streets, wards, etc. are not only geographical in nature but also carry many cultural and historical values of formation and development. Villages and communes in Vietnamese culture are words that express a strong sense of community, the connection through the process of formation, conquering nature, building life, fighting against enemies, etc. The names of villages and localities also express the characteristics of the people there. And it can also be clearly seen that in Vietnamese villages, each name of a village or commune is associated with a legend, story, and the most prominent cultural activity in the process of formation and development.

Until today, the cultural features and place names that are still preserved in each village, commune and locality are proof of the depth of history of the locality. And in the history of each village, commune and locality, there is the image of our ancestors, our forefathers, and pride in their origins. Therefore, keeping or inheriting the traditional names of villages, communes and localities not only shows respect for history but is also a way for us to continue to inherit the love for our homeland and the responsibility to preserve the cultural values our ancestors left behind.

In the development of the country, the requirement for innovation is inevitable. One of them is a particularly important and meaningful political task, which is the merger of communes and many provinces. This is a golden opportunity to carry out the merger, creating momentum for our nation to enter an era of self-improvement, all for the benefit of the People. The policy of merging communes and provinces, not implementing at the district level, is highly supported by the People, helping the Central and localities to quickly complete it this year. However, in the past time, in the policy of merging administrative units at the provincial and commune levels, naming the province, commune and possibly the village level is an issue that has received great attention from public opinion.

Many opinions were expressed about which name would be most suitable for the new administrative units after the merger. Many expressed regret for the historical names of the localities that may be lost after the merger; a large number expressed concern that abandoning the traditional names would affect the development of the locality, especially localities with developed tourism, whose names have become national and international brands.

Some people think that the initial suggestions for new names of some administrative units are not suitable for the traditions and history of the homeland... At the same time, many people expressed their wish that before merging communes and provinces, we need to propose naming options to ask for the opinions of local people. This may not be a small and easy task, but it is very necessary to create consensus among the people.

Many suggestions have been made about naming after the merger, it is possible to combine the names of the old administrative units to create a new name with high consensus, harmonizing the past and present; some people think that it is necessary to choose representative names, expressing the historical value, cultural characteristics of the land and people there; or choose prominent, typical names that have existed in the common development history of the locality to name. With the proposal of the Ministry of Home Affairs, it is possible to keep the names of districts and cities to name new communes and wards, which is also a very good option.

In reality, it can be seen that there are cases where keeping and naming villages and communes will not be easy, when there are places where 3-4 communes merge together, or 2-3 provinces merge together, the old localities all have their own, famous, meaningful names that people want to keep and use to name new ones. In the process of merging and forming new administrative units, it is really difficult to absolutely choose a name that satisfies the entire community. At that time, local Party committees and authorities need to be flexible in operating, propagating to the people and choosing the most suitable name that can reconcile the views of the people relatively. Therefore, we need to pay attention and consider carefully the choice of new names suitable for provinces, communes, and villages. From there, increase consensus, solidarity, and unity among the people, helping to increase strength so that our country can rise faster and stronger.

In the face of the very correct policy of the Party and Government in merging administrative units at the commune and provincial levels, we cannot let a few small opinions affect the merger and streamlining of administrative units. At the same time, each cadre, party member and our people need to be alert to the arguments of hostile forces that take advantage of the merger to incite narrow-minded individualism, localism, create ethnic discrimination and divide our great national unity bloc.
