Long An International Port completes 7 wharves

Long An In addition to the completion of 7 wharves, the investor launched a container cargo handling service, aiming at the goal of "one destination for all needs", on June 24.

The total length from wharf No. 1 to wharf No. 7 is 1,670 meters, located in the Port area with a total investment of more than 500 million USD, including 6 STS cranes, 18 RTG cranes manufactured and assembled 100% in Japan, by Mitsui E&S Machinery - a unit with hundreds of years of experience in the heavy industry.

The Long An International Port project cluster is planned to cover 1,935 hectares in Can Giuoc district, Long An province. Of which, the industrial park is 396 hectares; the industrial - service area is 239 hectares, the urban area is 1,145 hectares and the seaport is 147 hectares. All items are combined into a seaport service complex, aiming to form a seaport city complex in the future. According to the representative of Dongtam Group, the project investor, with the goal of becoming a recognized international seaport in Asia, the port area is invested in a systematic technical infrastructure with 1 million m2 of warehouses, full internal facilities, auxiliary works and means of transport.

At the closing event, the investor launched container cargo handling services in addition to traditional goods: agricultural and aquatic products, fertilizers, iron and steel, machinery and equipment, and oversized and overweight goods.

Mr. Vo Quoc Thang, Chairman of Dongtam Group, said that the Long An International Port Project Cluster is particularly significant to the socio -economic development of the Western region. "The project cluster brings benefits to the Mekong Delta from attracting investment, optimizing logistics costs, reducing product prices, increasing competitiveness for goods in the region, contributing to the creation of new urban areas, improving people's lives, retaining local workers and many other social implications," said Mr. Thang.

Mr. Nguyen Minh Lam, Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Vice Chairman of the Long An Provincial People's Committee, said that the orientation of developing Long An International Port into a comprehensive seaport with diversified exploitation services is in line with the strategy of developing and completing the province's transport infrastructure connecting with neighboring areas.

"The establishment of Long An International Port has contributed to solving the logistics problem and is one of the driving forces to promote economic development in the Mekong Delta region," said the provincial leader.

Previously, according to Decision 686 of the Prime Minister approving the Long An Provincial Planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050 on June 13, there are two important contents. One is to organize socio-economic activities, with the model of "one center, two economic corridors, three socio-economic regions, six dynamic axes". The second is to set the goal by 2030 to turn Long An into a gateway, a transit center for goods and warehouses connecting provinces in the Mekong Delta with Ho Chi Minh City, the Southeast region and Cambodia.

In the coming time, Long An International Port will carry out procedures to expand the scale of 10 wharves. Of which, there will be a wharf specializing in liquid/liquefied gas exploitation, 3 buoy berths for mooring ships, a center for receiving large cruise ships, welcoming domestic and international tourists. When completed, the Port will have the longest continuous shoreline in Vietnam, 2,368 meters, and will be able to receive ships with a capacity of up to 100,000 DWT.

On this occasion, Dongtam Group, Mitsubishi Corporation (Japan) and consulting partner GreenBank signed a memorandum of understanding on research - strategic consulting - service development for Long An International Port.

In addition to existing services such as bulk cargo handling, general cargo handling, domestic and international freight forwarding, warehouse leasing and customs brokerage services, Long An International Port will soon provide additional value-added services such as refrigerated container handling, container cleaning and repair to complete the full-package port and logistics service model.

"We are ready in terms of operational capacity and equipment to exploit container cargo safely and effectively. We aim to reach the operating capacity of Long An International Port by 2030 at 1 million TEUs, handling 10 million tons of general cargo through the Port," said Mr. Peter Hendrik Slootweg, General Director of Long An International Port Management and Exploitation Joint Stock Company.

The series of events of the closing of 7 wharves and the opening of container exploitation services are new highlights, marking a new development step of the Dongtam Group ecosystem in the 54-year journey of establishment and development (June 25, 1969 - June 25, 2023).
