In more than 11 months, the Can Tho - Ca Mau expressway (vertical axis) will be completed. The project is the desire of millions of people in the Mekong Delta, connecting smoothly for the North - South expressway in the East in the period of 2021-2025.

During the Lunar New Year holidays of At Ty 2025, when everyone is celebrating Spring and Tet, thousands of workers and engineers on the vertical expressway are working hard day and night with the goal of completing the project on schedule by the end of this year.

Recorded at Km 47+500, section passing through Vi Thang commune, Vi Thuy district, Hau Giang province, workers are busy paving the first 500m of asphalt of the highway.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Vinh, Deputy Director of Truong Son Nam Division under Truong Son Corporation, said that the unit is arranging 20 construction teams including 15 bridge construction teams and 5 road construction teams, with a workforce of 300 people. Currently, there are 4 bridge locations that must be worked on during Tet with items such as pouring concrete on the bridge deck, installing beams and 2 road locations that need to be filled with sand and rock.

"We are constructing 20km of highway with 20 bridges, the progress has reached over 65% of the contract value. Of which, 18 bridges have installed girders, and the bridges will be completed by the end of March at the latest. Regarding the road, the company has filled 90% of the load and paved 500m of asphalt concrete. Up to now, the contractor has ensured the proposed progress," said Mr. Vinh.

Workers are sweeping and cleaning the surface of Lo Da bridge, waiting for the asphalt to be laid. To encourage the workers, in addition to the 200% and 300% salary increase as prescribed, many contractors also organize Tet meals and give gifts to the workers.

Mr. Vo Van Son (46 years old, from Hau Giang) said that compared to civil construction, working on the highway is much harder because of being constantly exposed to the sun and the pressure of progress is very high. But in return, the salary is good, the work is steady every day, so this is also the reason this man has been working on the project for more than a year.

"The highway will be built soon. I am proud to contribute a small part to this great project," Mr. Son said happily.

Lo Da Bridge is part of the IC5 interchange project, with a length of over 350m and a width of over 25m. This is an overpass spanning Highway 61. In the first days of the new year, workers were busy cleaning and sanitizing the bridge, waiting for the asphalt to be laid.

At IC4 intersection through Binh Thanh commune, Phung Hiep district (Hau Giang), the construction site seems to never sleep because of the sound of machinery operating day and night.

Mr. Thai Ba Trinh, a technical officer of Construction Corporation No. 1, said that the contractor is responsible for the construction from Km34+100 to Km38+980 through Phung Hiep district (Hau Giang). The unit is mobilizing crushed stone for loading. During the Lunar New Year, the company organized 3 construction teams including gathering loaded stone on the main route, IC4 intersection and bridges and culverts to ensure that the project must be completed by the end of this year as required. The number of workers working each shift is about 40 people.

"Regarding the source of materials, there are still difficulties because the sand mining license will expire in February. At that time, we will increase the amount of stone we take to load," said Mr. Trinh.

Mr. Trinh is from Nghe An . During his break, he called home to ask how his family was preparing and decorating the house for Tet.

Can Tho - Ca Mau Expressway is more than 110km long, with a total investment of more than VND 27,500 billion, started construction in January 2023, and is expected to be completed in 2025.

This expressway section consists of two component projects: the Can Tho - Hau Giang component project is over 37km long. The total investment is over 10,370 billion VND.
