Can Tho - Ca Mau Expressway 'races' against schedule, construction continues even during the September 2nd holiday.

TPO - During the National Day holiday, thousands of engineers and workers, along with hundreds of pieces of equipment, continued to operate continuously on the Can Tho - Ca Mau expressway construction sites, determined to race against time to meet the deadline.

The My Thuan Project Management Board (Ministry of Construction) - the investor of the Can Tho - Ca Mau expressway project - announced that all land clearance for the project has been completed and handed over to the construction contractor. Currently, the initial section of the Can Tho - Ca Mau expressway project (the intersection with the Southern Song Hau National Highway, Can Tho) is basically completed. Construction volume for the Can Tho - Hau Giang section has reached 76%, and the disbursement of this year's planned capital has reached over 31% (over 573 billion VND).

The Can Tho - Ca Mau expressway is expected to be completed this coming December. The section is over 37.6km long, with a total investment of over 10,370 billion VND.

The entire Can Tho - Ca Mau expressway construction site maintained its pace of work throughout the National Day holiday on September 2nd, ensuring 3 shifts and 4 teams to meet the project's completion target on December 19th.

Mr. Dang Ngoc Minh, Director of the Can Tho - Hau Giang Expressway Project, My Thuan Project Management Board, said that to maintain the project's progress, contractors continued working on the construction site throughout the National Day holiday on September 2nd. The units focused on overtime work, increased shifts, and deployed additional machinery, equipment, and personnel to carry out load removal and roadbed construction during the holiday.

According to Mr. Minh, the construction site maintains 50 construction teams (20 for bridge construction, 28 for the main route construction, and 2 for the connecting route construction), with a total of 900 personnel and more than 320 pieces of machinery and equipment of various types.

Currently, contractors are focusing on unloading, embankment construction, compacting the crushed stone base, and laying asphalt concrete. It is expected that the entire main route will be loaded by the end of October, ensuring that the remaining items can be completed by December.

Currently, the rainy season in the Mekong Delta is still ongoing, but there have been more sunny days. Therefore, contractors are concentrating machinery and manpower to take advantage of favorable weather conditions for construction, especially the asphalt paving, which requires dry weather conditions.

Mr. Tran Van Thi, Director of the My Thuan Project Management Board and the project's investor, stated that during the National Day holiday on September 2nd, the investor still assigned personnel to supervise the contractors, ensuring they maintained a continuous supply of personnel and machinery, and promptly resolved any problems or issues that arose. The investor required both the construction contractors and supervisory contractors to maintain full staffing and machinery throughout the holiday period as usual to ensure the project's progress.

According to Mr. Tran Van Thi, Director of the My Thuan Project Management Board, the investor requires contractors to ensure that engineers and construction workers are properly compensated for holidays, in accordance with labor laws, so that they can work with peace of mind, maintain project progress, and take advantage of favorable weather conditions for construction. “Although the pressure to meet the deadline to complete the Can Tho – Hau Giang expressway section by December, contributing to the goal of having 3,000km of expressways by the end of this year, quality and labor safety must be absolutely ensured. The deadline should not affect quality or aesthetics,” Mr. Thi said.

The Hau Giang - Ca Mau expressway section, spanning over 73km, includes 16.6km of connecting routes, with a total investment of over 17,152 billion VND. Currently, the project has reached 70% completion, with 1,548 billion VND (over 30%) of this year's planned capital disbursed. During the holiday period, the Hau Giang - Ca Mau expressway construction site maintained 89 construction teams with over 1,549 personnel and 913 pieces of equipment and machinery working around the clock.

The Can Tho - Ca Mau expressway project, spanning over 110 km, is part of the Eastern North-South expressway and is divided into two sub-projects: the Can Tho - Hau Giang section and the Hau Giang - Ca Mau section.
