In the first set, Thuy Linh lost 15-21 to Karupathevan Letshanaa (the number 1 player of the Malaysian women's team). In the second set, the Vietnamese player took the lead and won 21-10. In the deciding set, Thuy Linh played with great confidence and won 23-21.
In the end, Thuy Linh won 2-1 against Karupathevan Letshanaa.
However, Vu Thi Trang, the pair Tran Thi Dieu Ly - Pham Thi Khanh, and Bui Bich Phuong lost 1-2, 0-2, and 0-2 in the following matches.
Notably, after the match, tennis player Nguyen Thuy Linh expressed her frustration with the refereeing in her victory over Karupathevan Letshanaa.
Vietnam's No. 1 female tennis player expressed her opinion: "I was very frustrated when, when I was chasing each point with the Malaysian athlete, the referee made incorrect decisions. If I had the right to challenge, I would have used it.
There were two situations where my opponent hit the shuttlecock out a lot but the umpire decided it was in the court. In another situation, I wasn’t sure if my shot was in the court or out, but the umpire decided it was out. I think the umpire was a bit biased towards my opponent.”
Meanwhile, head coach of the Vietnamese badminton team, Ngo Trung Dung, was also not satisfied with the referee's decisions.
Coach Ngo Trung Dung shared: “Thuy Linh played well in the first match, and as seen, Vu Thi Trang also tried very hard in the second match. Trang lost quite regrettably. In fact, in that match, there were many times that the referee made inaccurate decisions, at least 4 to 5 situations that caused Trang to lose points unfairly.”
