Polish paving company Drogbruk is in the midst of a public relations crisis after CEO Piotr Szczerek was accused of inappropriate behavior at the US Open tennis tournament. The company has faced a wave of negative reviews and harsh criticism from the global online community.
The incident was sparked by a video showing a man snatching a cap from a young boy shortly after player Kamil Majchrzak gave it to him. The incident occurred after Majchrzak's impressive five-set victory over ninth seed Karen Khachanov on Court 11.
The online community quickly identified the man in the video as Piotr Szczerek. He is the CEO of Drogbruk, a paving company founded in 1999 and now a leading enterprise in this field in Poland.
The public reaction was fierce. Thousands of negative comments appeared on social media platforms, calling Szczerek a “disgrace” and a “child bully.” Poland’s leading recruitment website was also flooded with comments criticizing the CEO.
Drogbruk has suffered direct consequences online. The company has restricted comments on its official Facebook page and shut down comments on other social media accounts. But that hasn’t stopped the flood of one-star reviews that have flooded business review platforms.
Tennis player Majchrzak posted an appeal on Instagram to find the boy named Brock and successfully contacted his family within an hour, giving him another cap.
"I was impressed with the power of the Internet. 'We did it! Everything worked out,' Majchrzak said after meeting the boy again and presenting him with a new hat.
The incident has become one of the most discussed topics on social media related to the 2025 US Open. Many users compared the situation to similar incidents in the past, suggesting that it is scandalous to act inappropriately in public.
