Promoting the role of the elderly

According to the City Elderly Association, after 30 years of establishment, the association has promoted its role as a special social organization, representing the aspirations, rights and legitimate interests of its members, and is a reliable support for the Party Committee and the government in caring for, protecting and promoting the role of the elderly. In recent years, cadres and elderly members have promoted the emulation movement "Old age - bright example", effectively implementing 3 key tasks: building a strong association; improving the effectiveness of the work of protecting and caring for the elderly; promoting the role of members in patriotic emulation movements, making important contributions to the process of building and developing the city.

The city has more than 134,000 elderly people, accounting for more than 11% of the population, with more than 100,000 members. With experience and prestige in society, more than 20,000 elderly people actively participate in building the grassroots political system, and are trusted to hold important responsibilities in the Party, government, front, mass organizations, associations, security and order protection forces, and grassroots mediation teams. Many members have held positions at the grassroots level for 5-15 years, and are important cores in propagating the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's laws and policies, and mobilizing people to carry out patriotic emulation movements.

Along with that, the city currently has 25,000 elderly people directly participating in labor, production and business, with 1,707 enterprises, 3,042 individual business households, contributing to creating jobs for 49,284 workers. In addition to contributing to the budget, many individuals actively participate in charity and humanitarian activities, contributing to ensuring social security in the locality.

The Elderly Association integrates the movement “Old age - good example” with the campaign “All people unite to build cultural life in residential areas”, attracting a large number of cadres and members to participate. On that basis, members promote their role in building cultural life, set good examples in educating their children and grandchildren, and do many useful things for the community and society with 98% of member families meeting the standards of cultural families.

Help the elderly live happily, healthily and usefully

The association focuses on caring for, protecting and improving health and spiritual life, helping members and the elderly live happily, healthily and be useful to the community. In the period of 2022-2024, the association organized solemn and thoughtful longevity celebrations for 38,475 elderly people. Currently, in the city, there are 391 cultural, artistic, physical education and self-help clubs with more than 31,000 members participating, contributing to improving the physical and mental health of the elderly.

The city currently has 18,398 elderly people receiving social security benefits; 100% of elderly people aged 80 and over receive monthly benefits and are issued health insurance cards; 100% of elderly people without support or income receive regular benefits. Over the past three years, the association at all levels has visited and presented gifts to 22,319 elderly people, donated 33.2 tons of food, with a total amount of 11.15 billion VND; and supported the construction of houses for 3 members in difficult circumstances.

To achieve the above results, the association at all levels always closely follows the leadership and direction of the Party Committee and the government, actively coordinates with the Fatherland Front and socio-political organizations to effectively carry out the work of caring for and promoting the role of the elderly. In addition, the association's officials always uphold the spirit of responsibility and enthusiasm, acting as the core to mobilize members to effectively carry out patriotic emulation movements.

Chairman of the City Elderly Association Pham Quy said that in the coming time, the association will continue to closely follow the reality of the whole country and locality in the context of the Party and State directing the arrangement of the apparatus from the central to local levels in a streamlined, effective and efficient manner to consolidate a strong association; strengthen the development of members; improve the quality of activities and work, especially at the grassroots level.

In addition, the association promotes socialization, diversifies the content, methods and types of elderly care; promotes the association's core role in the patriotic emulation movement, strives for the elderly to live happily, healthily and happily, contributing to building a peaceful, civilized, modern and livable city.
