According to the announcement of the State Council of Professors, among the 64 candidates proposed for recognition as meeting the standards of professor this year, there is only 1 female candidate, Ms. Tran Thi Viet Nga, born in 1974, hometown Thanh Chuong - Nghe An .
Ms. Tran Thi Viet Nga is currently the Head of the Faculty of Environmental Engineering at Hanoi University of Civil Engineering. She teaches the subject of Water Supply and Drainage at the school.
Regarding education, in 1996, Ms. Tran Thi Viet Nga graduated from Hanoi University of Civil Engineering, majoring in Water Supply and Drainage - Water Environment. Three years later (in 1999), she graduated with a master's degree in Wastewater Engineering from the Asian Institute of Technology in Thailand. In 2002, she continued to receive a doctorate in Urban Environmental Engineering from the University of Tokyo (Japan). In 2015, Dr. Tran Thi Viet Nga was appointed associate professor in Construction.
During her career, Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Thi Viet Nga has held many different positions. In 2009, she returned to Vietnam and worked at Hanoi University of Civil Engineering as a lecturer in the Department of Water Supply and Drainage, Faculty of Environmental Engineering. By 2015, she was a senior lecturer. Currently, Ms. Nga is the head of the Department of Environmental Engineering, Hanoi University of Civil Engineering.
Along with that, in scientific research, Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Thi Viet Nga focuses on two main directions. One is to research, develop and improve water and wastewater treatment technology to achieve high treatment efficiency suitable to the practical conditions of Vietnam, serving the goal of safe water supply, wastewater reuse and resource recovery.
Her second research interest is sustainable water and waste management oriented towards energy security, resource recovery and climate change adaptation.
Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Thi Viet Nga has published 76 scientific articles, including 26 articles in prestigious international journals SCIE, 7 articles in prestigious international journals Scopus, 3 articles in ACI journals, 2 articles in international conference proceedings listed in Scopus Indexes.
The female associate professor of construction has completed two state-level scientific research projects and two ministerial-level projects. She has also guided four doctoral students to successfully defend their theses.
In 2022, the Minister of Education and Training awarded the Certificate of Merit to Outstanding Teacher to Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Thi Viet Nga on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of Vietnamese Teachers' Day. She also received a Certificate of Merit from the Minister of Education and Training for excellently completing her tasks for two consecutive years from the 2020-2021 school year to the 2021-2022 school year.
At the same time, in March 2015, Ms. Nga received the Environment Award from the Japan Water Environment Association for her contributions to environmental research between the two countries.
In 2024, the list of candidates for recognition as professors and associate professors announced by the State Council of Professors includes 729 people, from 28 fields/interdisciplinary fields. Of these, there are 665 associate professor candidates and 64 professor candidates.
Economics is the field with the most candidates with 102 associate professor candidates and 6 professor candidates. This is followed by Medicine with a total of 82 candidates, including 76 associate professor candidates and 6 professor candidates.
The three "blank" fields for professor candidates are the Council of Professors of Security Science, the Council of Professors of Linguistics, and the Council of Professors of Culture - Arts - Sports.
