The city currently has 31 farm-scale livestock facilities and over 6,280 small-scale livestock and poultry farms. The total livestock herd is over 34,000 cattle and nearly 490,000 poultry. Every year, the Center has advised the City People's Committee to issue documents and plans on disease prevention and control for seasonal livestock and poultry; providing technical support services to serve the restructuring of crops, livestock and aquaculture.
Ms. Nguyen Thanh Huyen, Deputy Director of the City Agricultural Service Center, said: The Center has opened training courses to transfer livestock science and technology, raise awareness and help people gradually change production methods from traditional small-scale to concentrated, biosafety livestock farming, liberating labor, reducing costs, improving productivity and product quality... At the same time, overcoming environmental pollution, aiming to apply high technology in the livestock sector.
From 2024 to present, the Center has instructed over 2,300 livestock farmers on techniques for composting straw and sour grass as reserve feed for buffaloes and cows; techniques for caring for and preventing diseases for livestock and poultry; and measures to prevent heat and cold for crops and livestock. At the same time, the Center has encouraged people to practice safe livestock farming and not use banned substances in livestock farming, and to use veterinary drugs, pesticides, biological products and animal feed in accordance with regulations.
The center also assigned staff to coordinate with veterinary staff at the grassroots level to regularly monitor livestock diseases and promptly handle cases of livestock and poultry infected or suspected of being infected with dangerous infectious diseases. Coordinated with localities to inject 6,350 doses of foot-and-mouth disease vaccine for buffaloes and cows; 4,269 doses of rabies vaccine for dogs and cats; 1,850 doses of lumpy skin disease vaccine for buffaloes and cows; 1,075 doses of anthrax vaccine for buffaloes and cows; 233 doses of African swine fever vaccine. Instructed communes and wards to spray and disinfect 934,000 m² of livestock barns... Thanks to that, no dangerous infectious diseases have appeared in the area.
Not only transferring science and technology in theory, the Center's staff also directly go to livestock households to provide practical guidance, instructing households to apply new scientific and technical advances in building barns and caring for livestock according to biosafety standards.
After attending a training course on livestock farming techniques organized by the City Agricultural Service Center, Mr. Quang Van Xom, Muong village, Chieng Ngan commune, has gained more experience in taking care of his family's cows. Mr. Xom shared: His family raises 6 cows and 1 buffalo. Previously, the buffaloes and cows had poor resistance and did not reach the required weight, leading to low prices when sold. After being trained, I renovated the barn; applied a reasonable nutritional regimen for each period and fully vaccinated the cows... Since then, the cows have developed well, are disease-free, and sold for a higher price.
With the support of the City Agricultural Service Center, many livestock farming households have significantly improved productivity and product quality. Along with that, biosafety models of cattle, pig and poultry farming have been widely replicated, bringing high economic efficiency and contributing to environmental protection.
