Approval of investment policy and investor of 500kV Lao Cai - Vinh Yen transmission line project

ANTD.VN - Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son has just signed Decision No. 1276/QD-TTg, approving the investment policy of the 500kV Lao Cai - Vinh Yen transmission line project, the investor is Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN).

The 500kV Lao Cai - Vinh Yen transmission line project is expected to start construction in December 2025.

The 500kV Lao Cai – Vinh Yen transmission line project aims to transmit power from hydropower plants in the Northwest region and neighboring provinces to the national grid; creating strong links between regions in the power system, increasing the ability to operate safely and stably for the national power system.

The project also aims to reduce power losses in the transmission grid, increase the efficiency of EVN's electricity production and business, and prepare for the need to import electricity from China.

Project implementation locations: in Lao Cai, Yen Bai , Phu Tho, Vinh Phuc provinces.

Project scale includes: Construction of a new 500kV Lao Cai - Vinh Yen line, double circuit, approximately 228.92 km long; expansion of 02 more 500kV bays at the 500kV Vinh Yen transformer station to the 500kV Lao Cai transformer station.

Project investment capital: about 7,010.74 billion VND, of which: total pre-tax project investment capital is about 6,495.53 billion VND, expected to use equity capital (about 1,299.11 billion VND) accounting for 20% of total pre-tax project investment capital and commercial bank loans (about 5,196.42 billion VND) accounting for 80% of total pre-tax project investment capital.

Project operation period: minimum 40 years (from the date of decision approving investment policy and simultaneously approving investor).

Project progress: start in December 2025, construction within 06 months, strive to complete energization, put the project into use in May 2026.

Decision No. 1274/QD-TTg also clearly states the responsibilities of relevant agencies and organizations in implementing investment projects.
